Edward Jenner

Edward Jenner (1749-1823) was an English doctor who developed vaccination using cowpox virus as a preventative against the feared smallpox disease. In a famous experiment he innoculated an eight-year old boy with cowpox taken from a cowpox ulceration on the hand of a dairy maid.

Edward Anthony Jenner (17 May 1749 ? 26 January 1823) was an English scientist who studied his natural surroundings in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England. Jenner is widely credited as the pioneer of smallpox vaccine, and is sometimes referred to as the 'Father of Immunology'. Jenner's discovery 'has saved more lives than the work of any other man'.
