Megan Fox, jennifer's body why wasnt it a hit?

With the afterglow of the giant media hype of "Transformers 2" Megan Fox image had flooded and saturated media for months. Jennifers Body had hoped to cash in on the star power of this media darling but was the hype what made Jennifer's Body DOA at the box office? The much hyped feud with Michael Bay and the "no day of Megan Fox" on a website all played up that week the anti-Megan band wagon. However that just doesn't seem the case. A good backlash harms the celeb and takes them off the pages.......no people.....Megan Fox has weathered the storm and remains very much popular. Selling Rolling Stone magazines and being asked back for Transformers 3. The overhype was the hype about a backlash versus Megan Fox.

Comedy versus horror, American audiences don't like to mix horror and comedy. Just as we know comedy is often not as respected as drama, comedy is also felt to cheapen horror. The clever dialogue was almost meta and post-modern and snarky and often amusing but it made the horror lighter and took the edge off the movie. Perhaps people wanted a more serious film and not something like a spin off of Dawson's Creek or the Scream movies

Megan's Fox character was really not as bad as one expected. Ja know for a demonic spirit from depths of hell....she really was not as "bad" as you would expect. In a way she was a victim possessed by said spirit.
The writers seemed confident in that she was the "big bad" that would rally audience against her with the plucky mousey heroine....but......
Well....the character was brutally and sadistically killed and tormented in a ritual slaying.She was possessed by an evil spirit from hell....and halfway through the film it was evident the creature within her would only push her to killing long between feedings. A blood lust and thus a loss of control and consciousness of the human girl and the overriding power of the demon.
Megan Fox's character halfway through the film is shown to resist feeding to the point of being sickly and unattractive. More and more the issues of the heroine seem to be one of jealousy, rivalry and suppressed attraction. The heroine lashes out but where is the understanding that her friend is possessed and is not responsible...that the demon is getting the last laugh. I appreciated that tragic note because it reminds me of classic monster movies but it seemed that aspect was an accident or undeveloped part of the story. The creative elements seemed more interested in the sisterly rivalry and dysfunction and being meta.

Movies....men want there to be a strong male lead.....and women want there to be a strong male lead. Could it be that a feminist /Post-feminist-ish horror romp focused on devouring men and showing them in the role of toturing and sacrafice of a woman for money....just not what people wanted to see?
Is it pretty much beating a dead horse ...and people want to see heroics and strong male leads in American movies? Frankly the movie hasn't done that well over in Europe either. How many movies have won in the horror genre ,we have to think back to "Alien" with good ole Ripley. Did girl power let this movie down? Well....not many people actually saw the movie to generate bad press...but the movie marketing did have a lot of lesbian erotic female revenge fantasy about it....however "Kill Bill" did extremely well and thats far more of a bloody revenge film....in Two Volumes ! The jury is out on this one ,but it may have contributed.
