Evan's Recovery

"We've met some of the most amazing moms and dads who are forging their own path to prevention and recovery. When our son, Evan, was diagnosed with autism we were lucky enough to benefit from their knowledge and experience. Evan has been healed to a great extent by many breakthroughs that, while perhaps not scientifically proven, have definitely helped Evan and many other children who are recovering from autism." - Jenny McCarthy

Help Solve The Puzzle - Support Autism Research

Autism Research Institute
The Autism Research Institute (ARI), a non-profit organization, was established in 1967. For more than 40 years, ARI has devoted its work to conducting research, and to disseminating the results of research, on the triggers of autism and on methods of diagnosing and treating autism. We provide research-based information to parents and professionals around the world.

Autism Society of America
ASA, the nation's leading grassroots autism organization, exists to improve the lives of all affected by autism. We do this by increasing public awareness about the day-to-day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research and advocacy.

Founded in 1965 by Dr. Bernard Rimland, Dr. Ruth Sullivan and many other parents of children with autism, ASA is the leading source of trusted and reliable information about autism. Through its strong chapter network, ASA has spearheaded numerous pieces of state and local legislation, including the 2006 Combating Autism Act, the first federal autism-specific law. ASA's website is one of the most visited websites on autism in the world and its quarterly journal, Autism Advocate, has a broad national readership. ASA also hosts the most comprehensive national conference on autism, attended by 2000 people each year. Our information and referral team, our program staff, and our strong chapter presence serve thousands of families each year who are searching for help in their journey with autism.

ASA's national office is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. ASA is a member and chapter organization who's national Board of Directors is composed of democratically elected members and appointed members. We are proud to be one of the few organizations to have members with autism serving as active board directors. ASA's Panel of Professional Advisors sets the standards for our Options Policy that governs our practices, and we are proud to count the top professional experts in autism on our PPA. ASA's Panel of People on the Spectrum of Autism Advisors is a first-of-its-kind advisory panel comprised solely of individuals with autism, who help ASA staff create programs and services that will advocate for the rights of all people with autism to live fulfilling, interdependent lives.

Jenny and Jim

Over the years, Jim has also developed a close bond with Jenny's son, Evan. Jenny says Jim will let out his silly side when he's playing with Evan or telling stories.

"It's the most animated, hilarious thing ever," she says.

On St. Patrick's Day, Jim even dressed up as a leprechaun to entertain Evan. "Evan was out of his mind," Jenny says.

Being a celebrity has helped bring a lot of awareness to the problem of autism.

I was trying to add a comment but I guess I lost it. But I was responding to a poster here that, definitely, it is crucial to start treatment as earlier as possible. Treatment works best results when the condition is caught early.
However, it is important to be aware of the earliest warning signs. If by 9months, there is an absence of sound imitation or no motivation to share smiles or cries, contact your pediatrician immediately.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) often can be reliably detected by age 3. In some cases even earlier than that. Recent studies suggest that kids may eventually be accurately diagnosed by the age of 1 year or even younger. One thing for certain is that if your child shows any of the early warning signs of autism then they should be evaluated by a professional who specializes in autism disorders. I have been a behavior specialist for 10+ years and side from my extensive training in ABA and all therapies, which are all terrific to catch children up, there are other factors that are direct results to Autism and other "diseases." Jenny McCarthy is a fighter - a REAL and TRUE MOM! A MOM who fights for her kid! From facts, Jenny McCarthy is doing the Autism Community a HUGE service! Individuals with Autism CAN BE CURED. I'm tired of uneducated, opinion spewing, willing to trust the government and don't think and research for themselves people. Reread Jenny McCarthy's book, then read Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau, look into Dr. Leonard Coldwell, look into NaturalCures.com, and start actually thinking!!! I plan on starting my own foundation to cure these kids. It's sick how people are making money off of Autism, Cancer and the like. Jenny McCarthy is not a doctor, but her book was written with a Doctor, Dr. Jerry Kartzinel M.D.

I think Jenny McCarthy has done a huge disservice to the Autism Community. She has brought awareness, but in the wrong direction. She is not a doctor and has no real knowledge of the Autism Spectrum. She also put many children at risk by promoting her anti-vaccine agenda which has been proven false.
