I'm honored that I have received several Purple Stars from the Squidoo community! Purple Stars are special awards given by Squidoo to stellar lenses that are a little extra special - you can tell them by the small purple star they have next to the title of the lens.

Below, I tell the story behind each of my Purple Star lenses. Thank you Squidoo for the honor!

My First Purple Star: American Cancer Society Relay For Life

This is one of the first lenses that I made when I joined Squidoo. My family is very involved with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life fundraiser, but I found that there was not a lot of information about Relay available on the web. I wanted to create a page that broke down the experience of the Relay For Life for people who might be considering joining a team, or who would be doing their very first Relay.

The best part about this lens is that I set aside any royalties from it, and donate that to my Relay efforts every year!

My Second Purple Star: Relay For Life Team Themes

After my first lens about Relay For Life got some attention, I began to think of other things that would be helpful for first time Relayers to know. One of the most challenging things can be coming up with a creative and fun team theme, and figuring out how to decorate your campsite. So, I took notes on all of the Relay team themes I have seen throughout the years, and created this lens with a lot of suggestions on possible themes and variations, as well as links to where to buy decorations and costumes.

Like the lens above, I set aside all royalties from this lens and donate them to my Relay efforts each year!

My Third Purple Star: Five People To Make Your Valentine

In creating this lens, I started to think of all the things that people did not like about Valentines Day, and how I could make a lens with a different take on the subject. Everyone considers that the Christmas holidays can be difficult for people who are separated, alone or grieving, but it seemed to me that Valentines Day was another holiday where we could benefit from the giving spirit. I thought of five people in my life who I would want to give a little extra love to on Valentine's Day, did some research, and created this lens. I hope it has inspired others to reach out to people who struggle around this holiday.

My Fourth Purple Star: The Bridesmaid's Survival Guide

Ah, the story of this lens, it is much like making lemonade out of lemons - anyone who has ever shelled out big bucks for an ugly dress they will never wear again knows what I'm talking about! After being a bridesmaid in many weddings, I realized I had learned a few things along the way about how to budget for the honor, what to expect your duties to be, and items to carry with you on the big day. It is my hope that this lens helps bridesmaids everywhere!

My Fifth Purple Star: Relay For Life Fundraising Ideas

As you can tell by now, I have a lot of experience with the American Cancer Society's wonderful charity walk, Relay For Life. After being a team captain for many years, I felt I had some tips and tricks to share in the area of fundraising, which is one where many people struggle. I decided to create this lens listing many of the ways my team has raised money in the past, ideas we hope to try in the future, and ideas I've witnessed other Relay teams using. I hope that is is of use to Relay participants across the country as well as anyone doing charity fundraising, since most of the ideas can be adapted for other groups.

    I have 10 Purple Star lenses. Thank goodness there is a "purple star" link on the dashboard that keeps track of them for me--I do not have a lens for them. Must make one similar to this wonderful one you have created. My favorite Purple Star lens of mine is the one about a candy corn Halloween. I worked hard on it and love the way it turned out. I have not gotten a PS in a while and I think it is because there are so many great lenses being created by terrific lensmasters like you.
