Star Wars & Heavy Metal

The bassist known as 'Twiggy Ramirez' in the shock-rock group Marilyn Manson has done more then just drool and wear a dress on stage. With time served in the likes of A Perfect Circle and Nine Inch Nails, Jeordie has started his own band called Goon Moon with some help from Chris Goss.

But just who is Jeordie?

A history, in short

Born in New Jersey in June 1971, Jeordie grew up in southern Florida with his mom (a former cage dancer) and brothers. As a child he was a huge fan of 'Star Wars', which would later influence his first major band, Amboogalard. Eventually he would make his way into the shock-rock band Marilyn Manson, adopting the moniker of 'Twiggy Ramirez' and don a dress on (and sometimes off) stage.

After achieving world-wide fame with their 1997 album 'AntiChrist Superstar', the band moved from southern Florida to Hollywood, California to record their follow-up album 'Mechanical Animals'. The group's fourth album 'Holywood' was not as widely received as its predecessors.

In May of 2002, Jeordie put down the persona of Twiggy Ramirez and returned to 'every day' life. Auditioning for Metallica, a major influential band for him, and for Queens of the Stone Age never panned out but he joined forces with A Perfect Circle, recording and touring with them.

Jeordie eventually parted company with A Perfect Circle and took up with a friend from the past, Trent Reznor. Jeordie joined the touring line up of Nine Inch Nails in 2005 and has done two subsequent tours with the band as the touring bassist.

On the side, during the downtime, Jeordie also saw fit to form Goon Moon, a side project with Chris Goss and Zach Hill. They released an EP 'I Got a Brand New Egg Layin' Machine' in 2005, followed by a full-length album 'Licker's Last Leg' in 2007.

Goon Moon played several club dates in a small West Coast only tour in late 2007, with new music reportedly due in 2008. In early 2008 Jeordie announced he was rejoining Marilyn Manson as Twiggy Ramirez. Seemingly everything has come full circle.

New Model No. 15

The Marilyn Manson Years

The name 'Twiggy Ramirez' is formed from two people: Twiggy aka Twiggy Lawson, the English supermodel from the 1960s and Richard Ramirez aka 'The Night Stalker', an American serial killer.

Now known as Twiggy Ramirez, Jeordie donned a dress as part of the persona. These first started out as babydoll-esque, sometimes stolen from the closet of his then-girlfriend Jessicka (of Jack Of Jill fame) and partly as a dig on Courtney Love's 'kinderwhore' style. As the band progessed, Twiggy moved on to more elaborate dresses created for him. Another part of the persona was long black dreadlocks, sometimes pulled up into pigtails and white face paint, with dark makeup around the eyes.

While with Marilyn Manson, Twiggy was one of the core creators, writing much if not most of the music for their albums. Twiggy was responsible writing the music for one of the biggest hits the group ever had, 'The Beautiful People'. Although he was mainly responsible for bass duties on albums and tours, Jeordie also played most of the guitar on the Marilyn Manson albums.

After a move to Hollywood, many controversies and troubles and a general decline in interest of living the persona 24/7, Jeordie left Marilyn Manson without much fanfare in 2002. Though both Marilyn Manson and Jeordie claim there was no hard feelings over the parting, it could be said from simple observations that the magic had run out.

This time on Cribs...

In July 2001, MTV aired a special version of its show 'Cribs' featuring musicians on the OZZFest tour. Jeordie was one of them and gave a memorable tour of his then-home, complete with smoke machine, George the guru, and his Trans-Am.

Playing with A Perfect Circle

After leaving Marilyn Manson, Twiggy became Jeordie again. Eventually he took up bass playing with A Perfect Circle, a side project of Billy Howerdel Maynard James Keenan.

A Perfect Circle record its second album 'Thirteenth Step' and went on tour, eventually releasing a third album 'eMOTIVE' made up of mostly covers. By now it was 2004 and by 2005 A Perfect Circle found itself on indefinite hiatus...

Joining up with Nine Inch Nails

Marilyn Manson commented in his book 'A Long Hard Road Out of Hell' that during the recording of 'AntiChrist Superstar' in New Orleans, Manson was of the opinion Jeordie longed to join Reznor's band, Nine Inch Nails.

As fate has a sense of humor, Jeordie eventually did reconnect with Trent Reznor in 2005, who had recently moved to the Los Angeles area, and filled the vacant post of touring bassist for Nine Inch Nails.

Jeordie has since toured with NIN for the support of the albums 'With_Teeth' and 'Year Zero'. In addition to bass, he also sings backing vocals, plays guitar, and leads the fans in hand clapping; to date he is featured on the concert DVD 'Beside You In Time', which recorded the band's 'With_Teeth' tour.

While Reznor has said that he feels this touring lineup is one of the best NIN has ever had, with the tour finished it seems this particular incarnation of NIN Live has come to a close. No formal announcement was made but a new touring line up for NIN was announced in 2008, with Jeordie not included. Seemingly his days with NIN are over.

I Know Where You Live

The sounds of Goon Moon

Also in 2005, Jeordie created Goon Moon, a project band with Chris Goss and Zack Hill. Almost an exercise in fun and music, much like the famed 'Desert Sessions', Goon Moon runs from rock music to noise and everything in between.

Their first EP 'I Got a Brand New Egg Layin' Machine' dropped in 2005. Eventually both Jeordie and Chris found time to record a full-length album, 'Licker's Last Leg' and released it May 8th, 2007. The album even included a cover of the Bee Gee's 'Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You', one of Jeordie's favorite bands.

In December 2007, Goon Moon played their first club tour. Five shows on the west coast from Seattle to San Diego. They also opened for UNKLE in Los Angeles.

Even though Jeordie has been working with Marilyn Manson, there have been frequent updates of songs to the Goon Moon MySpace site. Some tracks include: Little Darlings, Never Heard a OLD Woman cuSS, and Phantom Legkickingjohninhell. As to when/if there will be a new Goon Moon release is anyone's guess.

Reuniting with Marilyn Manson

On January 9th, 2008 it was announced by the official Marilyn Manson website and Goon Moon's MySpace page that Jeordie had once again taken up the persona of Twiggy Ramirez and rejoined Marilyn Manson as bassist on their 2008 world tour.

Following what is described as an amicable split by Tim Skold, Marilyn Manson spoke in-depth with a fan site about his hopes for the reunion. In May 2009, the fruits of their labor was delivered. The High End of Low was released. The album harkens back to the earlier days of Marilyn Manson, with Twiggy's obvious influence.

Love Jeordie, but i'm really disappointed that he's gone back to Marilyn Manson and has taken up the Twiggy Ramirez persona again. What a step backwards. I hope this doesn't last too long and that he doesn't get completely caught up in the lifestyle again.
