Short-Tailed River Stingray
The Short-Tailed River Stingray is a massive member of the stingray family that can grow up to nearly 5 feet in diameter and weigh well over 400 lbs.
These river monsters spend most of their time resting on the river floor hidden under a very thin layer of sand. As a method of camouflage, the short-tailed river stingray will bury itself in the sand to remain unseen by its prey in which it can then surprise its meal for the day.
The method of stingrays hiding themselves under a thin layer of sand is the most common cause of human injury inflicted by the stinger of a stingray due to humans accidentally stepping on the hidden animals.

Arapaima
The Arapaima is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world as it has the potential to reach lengths of approximately 9-10 feet and weigh as much as 300-400 lbs. The Arapaima has the rare ability of a fish to breathe air; it can stay underwater for short periods of time but breaks the surface to breathe air. While this fish mostly preys upon other fish, it is said to have also been seen eating birds on the river surface!
Jeremy Wade's catch: The Arapaima river monster caught by Jeremy Wade in Rio Madeira Floodplain Lake, Brazil weighed in at 150 lbs.
