Who is Jeremy Irons

Ranked #12,485 in Entertainment, #153,014 overall

My Connection

My wife and I lived in Ballydehob, West Cork, Ireland when Jeremy Irons bought Kilcoe Castle and began renovating it.

Several of his workers and occasionally Jeremy were customers of our shop.  It was a very interesting episode that lasted many years, in fact long after we moved on.

This photo is a Before.

Before he bought the castle Jeremy had a home between Ballydehob and Skibbereen in which he hosted many celebrity guests.  Leonardo DeCaprio sitings were the favourite.

One of my favourite stories involved one of the local pubs known for its upper crust clientel.  Julia, the publican was well over 80 but still active and alert.  One night Jeremy brought in Kevin Costner for a few drinks and conversation and Julia pitched in and was a good hostess but as they were leaving she shook his hand and said, "Now dear, what was your name again?"

You don't know Jeremy Irons!!

This summer we were reminiscing about Ballydehob, Ireland with some young Americans. One of them flabbergasted me because he didn't know who Jeremy Irons was. What ? . . I sputtered, but he has been in countless movies! But before I could come up with one in particular the conversation moved on. With some help form IMDb I can now list a few of his many appearances according to the age of whom I talking with.

Among the movies he is best known for is Dead Ringers from 1988, but that pales to the fact he won Best Actor in 1991 for Reversal of Fortune. Middle-aged people should recognize him from Die Hard with a Vengeance(1995) or as one of the Three Musketeers in The Man in the Iron Mask(1998). Young people would recognize his voice as Scar in The Lion King(1994) or his face as Brom in Eragon(2006).

Another connection is that we now spend exptended periods in Prague, Czech Republic where Jeremy filmed Dungeons and Dragons in 2000. See more about filming in Prague as well as how to appear in films at http://parosparadise.com/CzechMates/2012/01/12/fame-and-fortune-hollywood-on-the-vltava/

That is just the tip of the iceberg since he has been in 78 films including major TV productions.

That's a lovely photo of Kilcoe, but that is not Jeremy Irons official site. He doesn't have one. It is one of his fansites.

Hmm, I do see them occasionally in small shops. Maybe in warmer climate areas.
Also my wife made one out of one of my old shirts with a frayed collar. She said it was easy.
    Cheers

This book gave us countless hours of pleasure.
If you are spending any time in County Cork, this book is a must have.
Walking in Ireland is heavenly in the sunshine but still great on "soft" days.
