Jessie Wilcox Smith Illustrations of Children

One of my all time favorite illustrators of children is Jessie Wilcox Smith. Her illustrations were found in magazines and books for children during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Smith was an American artist who began her career working for Ladies Home Journal Magazine in 1889. She is probably best known for the covers that she painted for Good Housekeeping magazine from 1917 through 1933. Jessie Wilcox Smith had a way of capturing the innocence of a child and touching your heart with her graphic illustration.

Our Rocket Moms assignment this week was to create a Top 10 list. So, without further ado I would like to introduce you to my favorite illustrations by a remarkable woman, Jessie Wilcox Smith. I think that you will love her work as much as I do.

8. The Goldfish by Jessie Wilcox Smith

Smith's illustration of a young boy at the goldfish bowl makes one wonder what happened next. Somehow I have visions of the bowl crashing to the flow. I love how Wilcox Smith illustrated children doing every day activities.
