"The Necklace" tells the story of Madame Mathilde Loisel and her husband. When Mathilde was little, she always imagined herself in a high social position with wonderful jewels. However, when she grows up, she has nothing, and marries a lowly clerk who is obsessed with making her happy. Through lots of begging at work, he is able to get two invitations to the Ministry of Education's party. However, Mathilde is upset, for she has nothing to wear. Using money that he was saving to buy a rifle, he lets Mathilde buy a fancy dress. However, Mathilde also wants jewels to wear. Since they don't have any money left, her husband suggests that she borrow something from her friend, Madame Jeanne Forestier. Mathilde picks out the fanciest jewel necklace that she can find. However, after attending the Ministry of Education's party, Mathilde finds out that she's lost the necklace. Mathilde and her husband then have to work for ten years to come up with the thirty-six thousand francs to buy a replacement for the necklace. After losing everything, having to work, and forcing her husband to work two jobs, Mathilde sees Madame Forestier walking down the street, and tells her that the necklace she returned to her was actually a replacement worth thirty six thousand francs. However, Madame Forestier is surprised and tells Mathilde that the original necklace was actually a fake worth only five hundred francs.

In Latin America, Azabache Bracelets are worn to protect against the Mal de ojo, or evil eye. The evil eye is believed to result of excessive admiration or envious looks by others. Having newborn babies wear an azabache (a gold bracelet or necklace with a black or red coral charm in the form of a fist), is believed to protect them from the evil eye.

There are various types of bangles available on the market. Most important distinctive factor for these is the material that is used to make the bangles. This may vary anything from glass to metal to lac and even rubber or plastic. Conventionally bangles were made of various types of metals like gold, silver, bronze etc. Bangles made from gold are considered the most expensive ones.

Another feature that adds to the price of the bangles is the works of art or the work done further on the metal. Bangles made from lac are one of the oldest ones and among the brittle category too. Lac is clay like material which in molded in hot kilns-like places to make these bangles. Among the recent participants are the rubber bangles that are worn more like a wrist band by youngsters while the plastic ones are there to add the stylish look.

Normally, a bangle worn by people around the world is simply a nonflexible piece of jewellery worn around the wrist. However, in many cultures, especially in the Arabian Peninsula and in South Asia particularly in India, bangles have evolved into various types in which different ones are used at different occasions.

A brooch (also known in ancient times as a fibula, and not to be confused with broach) is a ornamental jewellery item designed to be attached to garments. It is usually made of metal, often silver or gold but sometimes bronze or some other material. Brooches are frequently decorated with enamel or with gemstones and may be solely for decoration (as in the stomacher) or sometimes serve a practical function as a fastening, perhaps for a cloak.

The earliest known brooches are from the Bronze Age. As fashions in brooches changed rather fast, they are important chronological indicators.
