Color Trends for Jewelry: Spring 2008
Get set to heat things up! The jewelry color trends for spring 2008 are going to be HOT, HOT, HOT!!
With the changing seasons we look to the coming color palates to see what is new and exciting for jewelry trends. Well there is good news and then there is great news. The good news for jewelry lovers is the expected lovely warm colors incorporated in jewelry designs, and the great news is there is celebration of our beloved favorite jewelry tones as well.
There is much to celebrate with the upcoming fall and winter season in jewelry trends with an explosion of colors for the cold weather wardrobe to lift the spirits, so it will be a hot season for lovers of jewelry, like myself.
The most surprising color trend for the winter and spring 2008 season is yellow - generally the color we connect to bring sunny times - but as a way to challenge the closed in winter days yellow is coming to brighten up our daily lives. Refreshing gemstones like citrine, yellow topaz, amber, and chrysoberyl and simulated canary diamond jewelry, topaz glass beads and the cubic zirconia substitutes will keep you on top of seasonal jewelry trends!
A great counter point color for yellow is the ever popular shades of purple that will be highlighted this spring 2008, including jewelry designs with complimenting tones of pink. So pink diamonds, amethyst, pink topaz, rose quartz, fluorite and rhodonite (one of my favorites!) gemstones as well as pink pearl jewelry will all be bringing love and balance into our fashion jewelry wardrobes.
Another hot pick for your spring jewelry wardrobe is my favorite color, blue. With it's stylish staying power, blue tones will always be a perfect fit!So look for jewelry designs with sapphires, lapis lazuli, blue jade, aquamarine, blue topaz, turquoise, blue opals, blue moonstones, as well as the handmade lampwork beads in blue and the blue cubic zirconia tones. The range of shades of blue will let you match the best ones for your style!

Spring Jewelry Colors 2008
Guest Author - Melanie Spark
By Melanie SparkA trend implies something that is turning in a specific direction, or something that is changing. As the new year approaches, jewelry lovers can expect to see some neutral tones in jewelry. Citrine, grey pearls, lemon quartz and champagne diamonds will be smart picks for those who want to be in with the trends. When it comes to diamonds, one affordable alternative may be champagne or chocolate cubic zirconia, which is recognized as the finest diamond simulant in the world. This popular manmade stone is created to mimic a flawless diamond, which would be a significant investment in the world of jewelry. When recreated in cubic zirconia
Among a handful of remaining popular color choices for the upcoming spring and summer of 2008 are blue, which makes blue topaz and aquamarine a fun way to make a colorful statement in fashion. In addition, hues of purple will lend to the popularity of amethyst while shades of green will add even more value to the already desirable peridot gemstone.
If you're in the market for something hot next summer, any of the above choices will make the season even brighter for you and anyone you may choose to give the gift of jewelry. If you can't quite afford the genuine gemstones, you can find terrific deals in the colors of cubic zirconia.
If, on the other hand, you are someone who buys only what she likes and doesn't cater to current trends, you can still enjoy knowing what's in fashion for the upcoming season. If you already own blue topaz, aquamarine, citrine, pearls or even cubic zirconia featuring the champagne color, you can take great pride in knowing that your choices in jewelry are those that everyone will be searching for this summer. And if you're looking to add more pieces to your collection, there's no better time to find a wide selection of jewelry featuring your favorite colors and gemstones than when they are a part of the upcoming trends.
What's Hot and What's Not for 2008!
So 2008 is here. A new year with new hopes, new beginnings, and of course new trends. Although, fashions change at the blink of an eye but every year brings with it a trend that influences the fashion moods for the entire year. Read on if you are not only conscious but also subconscious about fashion and there is no chance that you want to be left behind walking the ramp after the red carpet is rolled off. Let's talk about the upcoming trends in the jewelry industry. So as they say it, old is gold. Classic designs in gemstone jewelry will be the hot trend for spring and summer of 2008.
And the hot favorite color will be blue. Blue gemstones like sapphire, tanzanite, aquamarine and blue sapphire will be very popular for jewelry. And followed by blue, purple and green will be in demand. And the gemstones that will be popular are amethyst, peridot, green garnet and of course, the gem of gems - emerald. Gemstones like blue jade, moonstones, sapphires, lapis lazuli, blue opals etc. will also be in vogue. If you talk of gemstones, bead strands and bead necklaces will the charm of the season. And if you are looking at complementing your gemstone pendant or gemstone earrings with other gems for added color, you can choose from citrine, yellow topaz, amber, and color diamonds.Bride's Jewelry:
Traditional heart pendant with the platinum and diamond heart necklaces will be in vogue. Despite the fact that metal colors are always a popular fashion for brides, cool tones of platinum would also make a charming appearance.Old Colors Make A New Stance
Blackened metals of every sort, from steel to sterling silver to gold. Oxidized sterling silver, black rhodium-plated gold, black (and even brown) PVD gold, black titanium, and other black or blackened metals allow larger-sized jewelry and silhouettes to remain large yet less ostentatious than high-polished looks. Necklace in 18k brown gold with citrine and brown gems.
Expect to see lots of texture from hand-hammered to etched. Any kind of texture will dominate precious and base metals.
One of the top raves for the coming seasons is a splash (and more) of black. Black onyx and pearls are hot. Rings with black pearls and pendants decorated with tiny black gems should give you that in look. Why not try some Swarovski black Pearls.
Retro Jewelry, jewelry from the 1940s, is forecasted to be big in 2008. Most retro jewelry was made with inexpensive base metal findings and glass beads. Do some research online by typing in retro jewelry in your browser.
Fall 2007 to winter 2008 will be dominated by rich and vivid saturated colors. Colors and gems like ruby, blue sapphire, and emerald, or use similar colors from Swarovski. Other strong, vivid gemstones, such as tanzanite, and tourmaline should fit right in. Warmercolors, including brown gems and pearls will continue to be popular, just combine them with vivid, saturated color or darkened precious metals.Throw in some dashes of vibrant red, teal, yellow or cosmic blue...purple and coral.
Gray was on the runways this fall, both here and abroad. Grays (from silvery lame looks to deep charcoal) will be around throughout fall and into spring 2008. Gray will be added as a fashion basic like black and white as a fashion basic. Depending upon the hue, gray easily coordinates with any color and metal.
A Hint Of Fall....Better Get Ready!
Nicolas Ghesquiere and Alber Elbaz may both have bucked the extreme platform shoe trend in favor of the sexy stiletto but in terms of the costume jewelry they sent down the runways at Balenciaga and Lanvin respectively, they occupy polar opposites of the aesthetic spectrum. Chunky cuffs or delicate bangles? Bold pendants or intricate chokers? The choice for fall/winter 2008-09 is a rich but stark one.At Lanvin, Elbaz continues to pursue his experimentation with an unusual and eclectic mix of materials, a trend he introduced several seasons ago with the launch of his tulle-wrapped pearl necklaces. Elbaz is credited (correctly, I think) with having spearheaded a revival of the costume jewelry trend which had not been seen since the 40's and 50's when fashion houses such as Chanel and Dior habitually turned out exquisite costume jewelry collections to complement their apparel. For Fall/Winter 2008-09 he's opted for a bold, chunky mix of geometric shapes that have a definite industrial yet polished feel to them. In contrast, the jewelry at Balenciaga is a sinewy blend of faux stones, strass and pearls that have a vintage appeal reminiscent of 1950's costume jewelry. The delicateness of the pieces were an unexpected but appealing complement to the austerity of Ghesquiere's fashions. Whatever your preference in jewelry, these pieces are a collector's treasure. With this in mind, you would do well to get yourselves on the waiting lists now.
Big, Bold Purple: The Great Look Of 2008!
Purples have always signified romance and royalty. Well this spring it represents the new high fashion color for vintage jewelry. Lilac purples were dripping all over the ready to wear fashion runways for spring 2008 from Marni to Marc Jacobs. You don't have to go head to toe dripping in purples like these models! You can update your look from 2007 to 2008 with simple vintage jewelry in all hues and tones of purple. This is one of my favorite hues and it can be worn with elegance!
You can take a cue from the Marc Jacobs run way show where big beads were bouncing everywhere and deck your self out in multiple strands of purple. Popular purple gems are amethyst, spinel, purple sapphire, opalite, and especially charoite for an exciting and eclectic look.
Bridal Jewelry Trends 2008
.....this is a great year to tie the knot!
Here are some of 2008's most popular wedding jewelry trends:Chandeliers - The chandelier earring styles we've grown to love for everyday jewelry make dramatic wedding earrings when adorned with pearls or crystals. Chandeliers can also take the form of elegant necklace stations or pendants.
20th Century vintage - The romantic styles of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s - from Art Deco to Old Hollywood are perfect for any elegant wedding, not just themed ceremonies. Look for sparkling faceted stones and quality vintage glass beads.
Drapey drops and multiple layers - Many brides will take advantage of the bold, multi-layer necklace look this year. We'll see lots of drapey strands, often surrounding eye-catching centerpieces. Layers may be adorned with pearls, crystal beads, and even less-traditional materials like mother-of-pearl or moonstone gemstones.
Contemporary pearls - Pearls of all shapes and sizes are everywhere this year, and they're readily available in non-traditional, dyed colors in addition to classic creams and whites. Some brides are adding color accents to their wedding gowns, and colorful pearls can be beautiful matching accompaniments.
Hair jewelry and tiaras - Tiaras and other jeweled hair accents are popular feminine favorites worn not only by brides, but by their wedding parties and guests as well. Traditional tiaras are crafted from wire, beads, crystals, and rhinestones. Jeweled combs and beaded hair pins are also available for a more subtle look. For the bride and her party wearing updos, specialty hair sticks can add a fun and unique finishing touch.
Ribbon-band watches - No one wants to arrive late to a wedding, especially not to her own! Today there are lots of fabulous watch styles that make very appropriate wedding wear. For example, the trendy new ribbon watches are feminine, a little bit formal, and can be matched to a wedding's color theme. Vintage-style and true-vintage metal watches, some adorned with dainty rhinestones, also make beautiful wedding day accents.

Whether it is a charm for a bracelet, pendant on the neckline, or a hefty cocktail ring, big is in! Elegance will not be understated. It is no secret that layering is one way to achieve an ornate and decorative look, but an easier means to that end result is to wear a single vast piece. I like to call these pieces my inspiration pieces too! I often choose one substantial piece of jewelry and build an outfit around it. I have a huge Brazilian Amethyst cocktail ring with loads of intricate gold-work on it, it is a story all its own, but it is the sort of piece that creates direction for an entire outfit. I choose my handbag and shoes according to the jewelry I've got on. It is a good thing that the pastel gems of the springtime are also quite affordable so that I can get bigger pieces to pursue this look.
Spring Colors Report
Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, released the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2008.The report features the top 10 colors for women's fashion for spring '08, designer sketches, quotes and headshots. The availability of the PANTONE Fashion Color Report coincides with the beginning of New York Fashion Week.
According to the report, the spring '08 palette is defined by classic, versatile neutrals punctuated by splashes of invigorating brights, empowering consumers to explore new and creative ways to combine colors.
Variations on popular colors such as energizing red, cool, waterborne blue and eco-friendly green also play a key role this season.
"The spring '08 color palette perfectly reflects the cheerfulness of the season," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "Stabilizing neutrals combined with pops of brighter colors to create unique, distinctive looks are the basis for a great spring and summer wardrobe."
According to the report, vibrant Snorkel Blue, a favorite this season among designers, is a dependable navy, but with more animation and sophistication. Warm, cheerful Freesia is an uplifting and inviting color to which people are instinctively drawn. It is also a color that allows for diverse accessorizing opportunities in jewelry and shoes. Brighter reds are consistent favorites in spring, and provocative Rococco Red is an exciting, attention-getting classic. The deep pink undertones of flowery Spring Crocus make it among the prettiest, most wearable purples.

Bangles For 2008: Arm Aid!
More is more this season when it comes to adorning your arms with jewelry - chunky bangles and cuffs to be exact. They were first spotted on the runway at the Chanel, Stella McCartney and Hermes spring shows, and then they quickly made their way onto the wrists of Hollywood's major trendsetters like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Kate Hudson.Metallic bangles and cuffs in particular look luxe when stacked on top of each other, but one special piece does the trick as well. And whether you opt for polished, hammered, studded or braided, they perk up this season's neutrals and black and white prints.
Here's how you can rock the big bracelet look:
*Kick-start a new corporate look by pairing one or two bangles with a dress or skirt suit. Shirtdresses lend themselves perfectly to this office glam look.
*Lucite is a clear winner this season. Pile on your plastics with an all-white ensemble or with any electric shade of the moment.
*Studded numbers play the perfect partner to sleek all-black looks.
*Ramp up your evening attire with a racy jewel-encrusted bangle.
*Don't forget about denim. Live large and sport extra-wide bracelets with your jeans and sandals or denim jacket (sleeves rolled up of course) with wide leg trousers.
*Look for broad cuffs that double as watches.
*Don't exclude shorts. Dress up your cropped bottoms with shiny accessories and fitted jackets.
*Menswear doesn't have to look butch. Keep it sexy and pair a slouchy suit, buttoned-down white shirt or vest with layers of embellished cuffs.
FASHION WEEK!!
Whether it's an invite to the Chanel sample sale or tickets to a tiny Kate Nash show, there are some invitations you simply can't turn down. So when opportunity emailed (knocking's so archaic) and offered amazing access to the Winter 2008 shows in New York, I booked my flight immediately. Fashion Week was brilliant-thanks to the truly amazing designers, stylists, and publicists who helped it all happen, and I can't wait to share the brightest talents, trends and looks I found. Over the next few days I'll show you the most interesting and relevant outfits worn to fashion shows, parties, and presentations starting right...now!It only seems appropriate to kick off my Fashion Week stories with a model, so first up we have the lovely catwalker, Anouck Lepere. She chose a floral dress, black gladiators, and bright red tights for the Joie/Serge Azria party at the Gramercy Park Hotel. A holy trinity of pretty young things hosted the fete: Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Theodora Richards, and Lily Donaldson (more on that in a moment). We're not sure if they're pals or if some enterprising photog and/or publicist created this moment, but Fergie and Rihanna were spotted together at the well-attended Max Azria show. While the Ferg normally goes for an involved look, for this show she stuck to a typical editor ensemble of all black, including some super dark Cartier shades and tote. Rihanna went for a bit more of a statement with slouchy boots and a plaid coat (by Max Azria, of course). Next, we have the aforementioned Theodora Richards who burnished her sleek style reputation by selecting a monochromatic outfit for the Joie/Serge Azria party. According to the folks at Fashion Week Daily (download their delightfully witty Daily mini-mag, it's perfection), Richards' wore gold American Apparel leggings and a vintage Pierre Cardin top. Richards wasn't the only gorgeous gal with a famous last name around town. The equally inspiring Margherita Missoni attended Erin Fetherston's show clad in her signature bohemian garb.
My favorite French belle, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, wowed as usual in Azzedine Alaia at the Joie/Serge Azria shindig. You really have to hand it to her; the girl has an unshakeable and flawless sense of style. Speaking of people who bring their personal taste to every outfit, let's discuss Ally Hilfiger. The darling, down-to-earth, and personable girl made the rounds this week and attended every hot show. Seen here at the Joie/Serge Azria bash, Hilfiger's perfectly broken in little leather and romantically ruffled dress make for an excellent outfit. Chloe Sevigny really has her ducks in a row. Not only is she the style advisor for UK ELLE, she's also got a line of clothing in Opening Ceremony stores now and made it to many of Fashion Week's most coveted festivities. Seen here at the launch party for her Opening Ceremony Collection at Webster Hall, I must mention how much I liked her sock/shoe combo. Finally, I'll close our first installment of fashion week looks the way I started....with a model. My closing figure belongs to Natasha Poly, who chose a look from Proenza Schouler's Spring 08 runway for the amfAR Gala.
