Our Recommendations

* Find the sales venue that works for you. Consider E-Bay, craft shows, selling on consignment and flea markets. (There is a lot of competition on the Internet so this is probably not the easiest place to start selling jewelry.)

*Make jewelry to sell in a wide variety of prices. Make some earrings to sell in the $10 to $14 price range, as well as some bracelet/necklace/ earring sets to sell in the over $60 price range.

*Make bracelet and earring sets and necklace and earring sets with matching beads and styles. Most people prefer matching jewelry but it is hard to find. This differentiates your jewelry from commercial jewelry.

*"Selling" is an active verb. When at craft shows or flea markets talk to as many people as you can. Any conversation to have them view you as a person and stop long enough to view your jewelry is helpful.

*Everyone has an opinion about pricing the jewelry you make. The only opinion that carries any weight is the customers. Price your jewelry to sell at a price that makes you comfortable with the return on your time. Don't expect to get $20 per hour for your time at the beginning. Adjust these prices as you learn what people are willing to pay. Some people use a rule of thumb for initial pricing as three time the costs of the materials.

*Begin your jewelry selling business with pieces that are easy to make. In general, people will not pay for the time involved in making complex and artistic jewelry. They like to look at it, but they will probably purchase less expensive jewelry.

*Consider selling the jewelry making projects shown on this page. They are all relatively quick to make and have proven customer interest where we demonstrate our WigJig tools. You can find more earring and bracelet jewelry making projects here, and necklace jewelry making projects here.
