2009.....The Best Year Ever!

Chunky chains and necklaces made from large, open links remain popular for 2008 and 2009. More necklaces are layered, with links bound together into stacks that surround your neck. Some are long enough to wear as a single chain or to wrap a couple of times for more depth.
Look for more textured links, alone or combined with polished links. And don't hesitate to clip a charm to some of the links in your necklace -- that's a trendy look for 2009 and beyond.

Stacked bracelets and necklaces continue to be a popular jewelry trend. Mix up metals and other materials -- groups are more interesting if they don't match. Wide cuff bracelets are an option if you don't like to wear multiples on your wrist.

Expect to see lots of jewelry made from yellow gold mixed with deeply colored gemstones like black onyx and lapis lazuli (often combined with vibrantly colored gems). The ethnic/tribal look remains popular, and so does the trend towards large necklaces (big chains and pendants).

Watch for gems that have interesting inclusions (like rutilated quartz) or banding (like agate).

Deep blue lapis lazuli is a perfect match for the earthy, ethnic look that's so popular right now. It looks good set with gold (those little gold flecks in some lapis are its pyrite content). Lapis is often combined with other gemstones -- black onyx makes a rich backdrop for lapis, but brightly colored gems work equally well with the blue gem.

2009 Trends In Jewelry!

There's no better way to add style and elegance to an outfit. Eye catching jewelry can give an outfit that extra edge and turn it in fabulous. Whether you're going to an evening party or simply enjoying a casual afternoon, jewelry is an important part of your overall look. As with clothing, jewelry trends come and go. The necklace or earrings style that's hot one year can look outdated the next. That's why it's a good idea to reassess your jewelry on a seasonal basis and fill in the gaps with some trendy new styles. Here are some of the best new jewelry trends for fall 2008/winter 2009 to keep you looking fashion forward and up to the minute:

Bracelets, bracelets, bracelets

The wrist will take on new importance this fall and winter and what better way to flatter an appendage than with a bold cuff bracelet. Though a large, unadorned cuff bracelet makes a statement on its own, cuffs sprinkled with stones and jewels of all types are also fabulous. These bold statement pieces will take your wrists from ordinary to extraordinary without spending a fortune. Feeling creative? Buy a plain cuff bracelet and decorate it with the stones and jewels of your choice.

Necklaces with Drama

Necklaces will take on importance this fall and winter and are designed to make a bold statement. Look for an abundance of multi-strand necklaces and layering of strands to create a look that will take even the most ordinary outfit from fine to divine. Necklaces seen on the fashion runways ran the gamut in color and style, but they were all universally bold in their presentation. These "in your face" necklaces are best worn with simple clothing as all eyes will be drawn to your neck. Put away your small, demure chains and think big, bold, and eye catching when it comes to necklaces for fall.

Pendants

With so much emphasis on the neck, pendants are making a comeback and they're bold and dramatic like the necklaces they dangle from. Look for oversized coins, medallions, and gemstone pendants to add to your collection. Although super large pendants were emphasized in all the fashion runway shows, there's still a place for smaller, more delicate pendants if bold isn't your style. Just make sure you have some!

Natural stones

The green movement has hit the jewelry world in a big way. You'll see a proliferation of natural beads and stones adorning all types of jewelry this fall and winter. Look for natural gemstones such as jade and turquoise to be a hit along with wood, bone, and freshwater pearls. These are the perfect pieces to be incorporated into the dramatic statement necklaces that will be so popular this fall.

With so many choices, almost anything goes for fall and winter 2009 jewelry. Have fun experimenting with the many choices!

Earring Trends 2009

Silver hoop earrings are not dead. You may have thought that they came and went with the 80's, and I'm hear to tell you this is simply not true. If there is one accessory I find the celebrities wearing more and more frequently this would be it. They are simple, clean, and they look pretty darn hot with basically any type of ensemble. You really can't go wrong with gold hoop earrings, or sterling silver hoop earrings for that matter. Hoops are just a nice complementary piece of jewelry.

Now, if anyone in this country knows how to appropriately emulate a celebrity - it's the NYU (New York University, for you foreigners) and FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) students. They know what's up, that's for sure. But the best part about these youngsters is that they are designers-in-training themselves, so they often take modern style and elaborate on it or modify it.

The celebrities that teenagers see in music videos, television programs or movie screens are largely responsible for dictating trends in teen jewelry fashion. The oversized, ostentatious accoutrements favored by rap musicians have spawned the hip-hop jewelry trend, and teenagers have been patronizing lower-priced but accurate replicas of celebrity bling. Instead of the diamonds and other precious gems used in celebrity jewelry, cheaper zirconia and base metals are used for duplicates. designer pendants that are imported from Israel and Brazil. These pendants combine tradition and contemporary by mixing pearls and leather, or crystal and brass.

Hoop earrings are another traditional style that is as popular today as they were ages ago. Hoops can come in a variety of different materials, such as gold, silver or even hard plastic. There are small, delicate hoops and big, bold hoops. Some hoops are thin, others are thicker. There are the choices of celebrities are hoop earrings that are perfect circles, and ones that are more oval shaped. There are even square are rectangular choices that are similar to circle hoops in style.

Summer Wedding Trends 2009

Summer is the perfect time to honor your big day with an outdoor wedding. It's the season to go 'light' on everything, from the food to the clothing and just enjoy the best the season has to offer. If you're planning a hot-weather wedding event for the Summer 2009 wedding season, here are the trends that capture the year's most coveted styles and themes:

Summer 2009 Wedding Trend: Bohemian Elegance
'60s style makes a comeback for Spring 2009 fashion, and it's another year for full-length maxi dresses and supersized ruffles on gowns.
John Galliano captured this fresh look on the fashion runways at New York Fashion Week, and it's filtering into wedding ensembles where gowns and dresses are taking on a Bohemian vibe; look for outfits with a loose and flowing style, and even the palazzo pant-suit for the reception and other wedding events.

Summer 2009 Wedding Trend: Lavender Blues
If you're looking for a completely unique look for the Summer 2009 wedding, pick up some color a la Reem Acra. In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, the famousdesigner explains that her inspiration for the 2009 bridal collection was "Color, a lot of color. A lot of blues, greens and lavender." In addition to complete skirts and bodices decked out in bright hues, you can pick up matching hats and gloves for a bold, fashion-forward ensemble.

Summer 2009 Wedding Trend: Colored Gemstone and Diamond Wedding Rings
If you still haven't found the perfect wedding ring, skip the classic white set of diamonds for something embellished with a splash of color. According to WhiteLaceWedding.com, the summer bride will be an atypical ring, sporting a color-infused rock such as sapphire, ruby, topaz, garnet or emerald. Match this theme with jewel tones for the bridesmaid troupe and you'll be well on your way to capturing one of the season's top wedding trends.

Gemstone Jewelry Trends 2009: Big Stones and Diamonds

Necklaces:
Hard to ignore, oversized necklaces have been shown universally in the major fashion publications over the past several months. There are a few beauties to note in the fine jewelry arena including: Snake-like chain link triple strand necklaces; Mesh webbing "bib" shaped precious metal styles; Intertwined chain link necklaces, modern chunky Riviere necklaces (made to look like a river of gemstones) crafted from affordable colored gemstones clustered together.

Bracelets:
For Fall/Winter we will see big, bold, blackened and bejeweled cuffs. Blackened sterling silver in particular is the metal of preference for bracelets. Colored gemstones, mostly cabochon, milky and opaque are popular accents. Rose-cut diamonds and colored gemstones also make for subtle sophisticated detailing. Black gemstones paired with high karat gold is a rich look that will also be seen this Fall/Winter.

Earrings:
Big earrings are back- especially in the form of large gold hoops. Note that the freshest versions are forward facing. Concentric circles floating in the center of an outer hoop are trending. Pavé diamond hoops with lots of "bling" are also welcome additions. Bigger, bolder and brighter diamonds are being used as well as black and brown, champagne, cognac diamonds.

Trends In Pearls!

One of today's hottest pearl styles is to wear multiple strands of pearls. To take your look from demure to dramatic, layer on the pearls! This sassy secret has worked wonders since the beginning of time. Imagine a cascade of pearl strands swinging over your simple black sheath or sweater set.

Mix different pearl sizes and lengths with reckless abandon (though keeping your pearls close in color produces the best effect). Multiple strands of Pearls work for both day and evening. They look best with simple crew or V-necklines, although the adventurous may layer them flirtatiously in an unbuttoned neckline of a blouse or shirt. Pastel colors are in and freshwater pearls are available in natural colors that range from pink to peach to lavender. Multi strand pastel freshwater pearls in multiple colors with a large silver clasp are perfect summer evening wear. A single strand of pink or peach freshwater is fashion dynamite with a hot pink or peach bikini.

Pearl Dangles are Hot!!!
Long, swinging pearl earrings are the number one fashion choice. Sexy pearl chandelier styles are perfect for evening and long, geometric pearl earrings in white and yellow gold have become the look of choice for daytime. Sensuous, shoulder-sweeping pearl earrings create a feeling of glamour like nothing else!
Pearl Bangles are Back!
Arms are on the fashion fast track right now. Pearl bangles and pearl bracelets, big and small have taken center stage.

Men's Outlook 2009

According to the LA Times, guys are getting more and more into jewelry these days. Sales of men's jewelry doubled in the US over the last couple of years, and the trend is certainly visible on trend settin celebrity types from Johnny Depp to David Beckham.

So, why are men suddenly flocking back toward the bling? Some are saying that men are becoming more comfortable with making a fashion statement. Whatever.

Whether men are getting more in touch with their repressed love of jewelry, or if it's just a trend like wearing Livestrong bracelets, men's jewelry is definitely on the way up -- and it's not all functional stuff either. Necklaces are the most common, followed by bracelets and rings. The look that celebs are sporting is not particularly glamorous or flashy, it's more subdued and personal. One subtle piece is enough to get people's attention.

According to jewelry buyers, the best selling men's items are symbolic in nature: crosses, dog tags, or spiritual beads. Think: stuff that some guy might have tattooed on his back -- then imagine it in jewelry form. It's basically a low-commitment substitute for getting a tattoo.

Going "Green" in Jewelry Trends: Green Earth Jewelry!

Green Earth Jewelry was founded on respect for planet and people. Every aspect of our business is guided by these principles from the materials we use to make our jewelry, right down to our 100% recycled business cards. Every day, we strive to bring you eco-friendly jewelry that looks good and that you actually want to wear.

The inspiration to start Green Earth Jewelry came to designer and founder Christina Griffin in 2006 when she could no longer tolerate the jewelry industry's lack of respect for the environment. Much gold, silver, and gemstone mining is catastrophic to the environment and human rights, often polluting water supplies, destroying land, employing child laborers, and much worse. So instead of going about her business and choosing to ignore the ramifications of supporting these methods, like many do, she focused on finding materials that have as little impact as possible on the environment and the people who make them.

These efforts have paid off and now you have a source for fashionable, hand-crafted, unique, and, most importantly, eco-friendly jewelry. Some of the materials you will find in Green Earth Jewelry's creations are fair trade gemstones, recycled silver, vintage beads, and fair trade silver beads. This list is not exhaustive and we are constantly searching for new, exciting, eco-friendly, and socially responsible materials to make into beautiful jewelry.
