I can remember dressing up as a lot of different people (always from the megillah) for Purim. The two occasions I remember most clearly are dressing up as Mordecai (eyebrow-pencil moustache and beard and a striped beach towel over my shoulders) and as Vashti.

Not Purim stories (though I used to read the Megilla -- well, my part thereof -- at our Women's Tefilla -- Prayer -- Group in my Zorro costume) but Purim designs -- which you can find (along with my regaling of this tale) at http://www.squidoo.com/Purim_Esther_et_al

What an interesting lens Paula - I had heard of Esther and Mordecai but I did not know the story.

I knew nothing about Purim and this lens is a great introduction! I'll have to try the Hamentaschen. I like the giving of food gifts through a third party, too. 5*

I love Esther and the whole story of Purim. And there are good lessons to be learned from this history. I love the quote where Mordecai tells Esther that she became Queen "for such a time as this". We often wonder why some things happen in our lives or how we end up in some situations or positions. But God always has a plan and a purpose.

My favorite part of your description of Purim celebrations is how the people boo and hiss at Haman while the book is read. Wonderful. He is such a villain.
