The First Jigsaw Puzzle

type=textAccording to numerous sources, the first jigsaw puzzle ever was made by an Englishman named John Spilsbury in the 1760's. Most put the exact year at 1767.
That first puzzle was a map of the world, with the various pieces being countries. He made it to be used in teaching Geography.

Jigsaw Puzzling as a Family Activity

Working a jigsaw puzzle is a wonderful family activity. If you have a place to leave the in progress puzzle undisturbed, it's especially handy. But, even if you don't, there are special puzzle accessories that let you clear awa an unfinished puzzle without taking it apart.

We have a special family week each summer. We gather from our various homes in New York, Massachussets, Arizona, Florida, and Hawaii and meet for a week in Texas.

Slow Down Puzzle puzzle

One thing everyone looks forward to is working a huge jugsaw puzzle. Everyone, from the teens to the grannies spends a few minutes (or more) whenever they feel like it. Somehow, by week's end, that 1000 or 1500 piece puzzle is completed, and everyone had a hand in it!

I used to love doing the gigantic over 1000 piece puzzles. Perhaps one day again I will have the time to play on a puzzle. The fun thing is that you can leave them out and work on them whenever you like. It would be much easier to do that now as I no longer have a cat. She used to love stealing my puzzle pieces lol.

I'm thinking that working on a puzzle of a ship that you were just on would be pretty cool ... and then framing it and hanging it on the wall as a memory!
