Jim Rohn - Master Philosopher
Nor is it something you wish for.
Happiness is something you design."

The Passing of a Legend
With great sadness we share that Jim Rohn, our mentor and friend, left us December 5, 2009 for a better place.
Over the past 18 months, in his battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Jim assured us with a smile that all is good, that he would fight until the last breath, yet he had no fear as to what would be next. Jim's faith was as much a part of his life as his desire to inspire and challenge us all to be the best we could be and to live our dreams.
Jim's courage in his final months and days were a testament to his message that we should all fight the good fight. He never gave up and never gave in.
Jim Rohn touched millions of lives over the past 46 years through his seminars, books, articles and CDs. He always stayed long after an event to shake hands, take pictures and sign autographs. He loved making a difference in people's lives, that was his passion and inspiration. Yet he was also a private man who kept a small, loyal and caring inner circle. He was a tremendous friend to those who knew him.
Harold Dyke, long time close friend of Jim's for over 55 years said it best, "As Jim is ending one life he is simultaneously being birthed into a new life. One that he has talked about over the years and anticipated with great joy in his last remaining days."
Kyle Wilson, long time colleague and friend of Jim had this to say about his mentor, "Jim Rohn was a great human being. Jim had the rare ability to take any concept or idea and then frame it in such a way that the rest of us could see it more clearly. His wisdom and insights positively affected everyone he touched on some level and to so many of us it was in an extraordinary way.
But even more impressive was Jim Rohn the man. He possessed style and charisma, yet was humble, kind and understated to all who knew him. I find myself every day reflecting, benefiting and passing on the wisdom and ideas that are rooted in Jim's message and wisdom. Jim is irreplaceable on every level.
I will miss him beyond words, but am comforted as I know he was, that his message and legacy will live on and positively change millions of lives over the years to come!"
Someone once said "when you are born you enter the world crying while everyone else is rejoicing and when you die hopefully you have lived such a life that everyone will be crying while you are rejoicing". Jim Rohn lived such a life.
Jim's family asked us to thank all of you for your concern, prayers and love toward their father and grandfather, which has been so evident during the past 18 months.
Jim fondly closed his programs with the following sentiments: "I go with you in all the experience that we've had. But I promise you this as we leave here: I will not leave you behind. I'll take you with me in my thoughts and in my heart."

Jim Rohn Tribute
by Helene Malmsio
I spent many fantastic hours in the audience, introducing my friends to his philosophies.
I watched them roar with laughter as they "learned their lessons with humour" and catch their breath when his profound pithy statements hit a raw nerve.
You never forget what he opens your mind into becoming aware of for the first time in your life. his most profound lessons always revolved around taking self responsibility and taking personal action - with love, grace, and consideration of all around you.
The phones rang hot the day of his death, including my caring friends gently sharing the news, but not mourning his passing as much as celebrating his long life that was lived well and his incredible life's work, which has touched each of us indelibly.
Anyone reading this who does not own at least a few of Jim Rohn's life changing self help tools should get your hands on some. You won't be able to borrow any from now on, you're going to have to go out there and claim a stake on some of your own self help development tools by Jim.
It will become a treasured part of your 'personal library', that Jim always reminded us would be our most valuable possession, and legacy.
I'm sitting in my personal library right now, with wrap around walls of books, audiotapes, videos, DVDs of amazing resources - and around 100,000 ebooks as well. Lesson learned - and life is good!
Thank you Jim for changing so many lives for the better, including mine.

Fundamentals and more!
Two Pains
The pain of discipline weighs ounces, but the pain of regret weighs tons.
This is something I always think about when things get hard, and I want to quit early, put something off until later, procrastinate,
or when I'm about to finish up a big project.
It's easy to put things off. But if you make it a habit, what would you life end up being?
You'd regret so many things.
That pain is worse than the "pain of discipline" to finish up the task at hand and give it your best, so you have no regrets.
Profits Are Better Than Wages
Jim Rohn says wages make you a living but profits make a fortune.
Most people earn wages which is good enough to get a pair of shoes, a piece of bread and a place to get out of the rain.
But those who wish to enjoy the higher pleasures of life, work for profits, not wages.
That means they create and utilize enterprises.
It means teaching your children to have two bicycles.
One to ride and one to rent out.
See it doesn't take long to start making profits.
A bit of ingenuity and you're on your way.

Wishing
Don't wish for less problems; wish for more skills."
The key takeaway Jim Rohn gave me was that you can't "pursue" success.
That's like trying to change the order of the seasons.
Instead, you must ATTRACT success, by becoming an 'attractive' person. People who "pursue" success wish things were easier.
People who attract success decide to get BETTER instead of wasting their time wishing it was easier.
People who try to pursue success wish there were less problems and challenges to obtain it.
People who attract success wish for more skill to handle those problems and challenges, more wisdom to turn opportunity into wealth.
Or as Jim Rohn says, "To get more, you have to become more."
FAILURE
Jim Rohn says failure is often not some single, cataclysmic event%u2026
But a few small errors in judgment repeated every day.
This always has rung true for me. Some people make a small error
in judgment when they almost finish something but "put it off until tomorrow%u2026"
They make it a habit, and repeat it every day. No wonder they can't make progress!
Some people decide to spend their limited free time watching DVDs and playing video games.
And they do this every day.
But what if they spent some of that time reading more books?
As Jim Rohn said, "The book you miss can't help!"
And as he also said, "Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune!"
And he also said, "Miss a meal if you have to, but don't miss a book!"
What if these people instead spent some of that time improving themselves and their skills?
That could be the whole difference!
SUCCESS
Jim Rohn says, Success is doing seemingly "ordinary things" extraordinarily well."
Or as Jim Rohn says another way,
"Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day."

God has the tough end of the deal. What if instead of planting the seed you had to make the tree? That would keep you up late at night, trying to figure that one out.
One of my good friends always says, "Things don't just happen; things happen just."
The soil says, "Don't bring me your need, bring me your seed."
NINE THINGS MORE IMPORTANT THAN CAPITAL by Jim Rohn
When starting any enterprise or business, whether it is full-time or part-time, we all know the value of having plenty of capital (money).
But I bet we both know or at least have heard of people who started with no capital who went on to make fortunes. How? You may ask.
Well, I believe there are actually some things that are more valuable than capital that can lead to your entrepreneurial success. Let me give you the list.
1. Time
Time is more valuable than capital. The time you set aside not to be wasted, not to be given away.
Time you set aside to be invested in an enterprise that brings value to the marketplace with the hope of making a profit. Now we have capital time.
How valuable is time? Time properly invested is worth a fortune. Time wasted can be devastation. Time invested can perform miracles, so you invest your time.
2. Desperation
I have a friend Lydia, whose first major investment in her new enterprise was desperation.
She said, "My kids are hungry, I gotta make this work. If this doesn't work, what will I do?" So she invested $1 in her enterprise selling a product she believed in.
The $1 was to buy a few fliers so she could make a sale at retail, collect the money and then buy the product wholesale to deliver back to the customer.
My friend Bill Bailey went to Chicago as a teenager after he got out of high school.
And the first job he got was as a night janitor. Someone said, "Bill, why would you settle for night janitor?" He said, "Malnutrition."
You work at whatever you can possibly get when you get hungry. You go to work somewhere -- night janitor, it doesn't matter where it is.
Years later, now Bill is a recipient of the Horatio Alger award, rich and powerful and one of the great examples of lifestyle that I know.
But, his first job -- night janitor. Desperation can be a powerful incentive. When you say - I must.
3. Determination
Determination says I will. First Lydia said, "I must find a customer." Desperation.
Second, she said, "I will find someone before this first day is over." Sure enough, she found someone.
She said, "If it works once, it will work again." But then the next person said, "No." Now what must you invest?
4. Courage
Courage is more valuable than capital. If you've only got $1 and a lot of courage, I'm telling you, you've got a good future ahead of you.
Courage in spite of the circumstances. Humans can do the most incredible things no matter what happens.
Haven't we heard the stories? There are some recent ones from Kosovo that are some of the most classic, unbelievable stories of being in the depths of hell and finally making it out. It's humans. You can't sell humans short.
Courage in spite of, not because of, but in spite of. Now once Lydia has made 3 or 4 sales and gotten going, here's what now takes over.
5. Ambition
"Wow! If I can sell 3, I can sell 33. If I can sell 33, I can sell 103." Wow. Lydia is now dazzled by her own dreams of the future.
6. Faith
Now she begins to believe she's got a good product. This is probably a good company.
And she then starts to believe in herself. Lydia, single mother, 2 kids, no job. "My gosh, I'm going to pull it off!" Her self-esteem starts to soar.
These are investments that are unmatched. Money can't touch it. What if you had a million dollars and no faith? You'd be poor. You wouldn't be rich. Now here is the next one, the reason why she's a millionaire today.
7. Ingenuity
Putting your brains to work. Probably up until now, you've put about 1/10 of your brainpower to work.
What if you employed the other 9/10? You can't believe what can happen. Humans can come up with the most intriguing things to do. Ingenuity.
What's ingenuity worth? A fortune. It is more valuable than money. All you need is a $1 and plenty of ingenuity. Figuring out a way to make it work, make it work, make it work.
8. Heart and Soul
What is a substitute for heart and soul? It's not money. Money can't buy heart and soul. Heart and soul is more valuable than a million dollars. A million dollars without heart and soul, you have no life. You are ineffective.
But, heart and soul is like the unseen magic that moves people, moves people to buy, moves people to make decisions, moves people to act, moves people to respond.
9. Personality
You've just got to spruce up and sharpen up your own personality. You've got plenty of personality. Just get it developed to where it is effective every day, it's effective no matter who you talk to - whether it is a child or whether it is a business person - whether it is a rich person or a poor person. A unique personality that is at home anywhere.
My mentor Bill Bailey taught me, "You've got to learn to be just as comfortable, Mr. Rohn, whether it is in a little shack in Kentucky having a beer and watching the fights with Winfred, my old friend or in a Georgian mansion in Washington, DC as the Senator's guest."
Move with ease whether it is with the rich or whether it is with the poor. And it makes no difference to you who is rich or who is poor.
A chance to have a unique relationship with whomever. The kind of personality that's comfortable. The kind of personality that's not bent out of shape.
And lastly, let's not forget charisma and sophistication. Charisma with a touch of humility. This entire list is more valuable than money. With one dollar and the list I just gave you, the world is yours.
It belongs to you, whatever piece of it you desire whatever development you wish for your life. I've given you the secret. Capital.
The kind of capital that is more valuable than money and that can secure your future and fortune. Remember that you lack not the resources.

Excelling in the New Millennium
THE FOUR EMOTIONS THAT CAN LEAD TO LIFE CHANGE by JIM ROHN
(excerpted from "Seven Strategies for Wealth and Happiness" by Jim Rohn)
Emotions are the most powerful forces inside us. Under the power of emotions, human beings can perform the most heroic (as well as barbaric) acts.To a great degree, civilization itself can be defined as the intelligent channeling of human emotion.
Emotions are fuel and the mind is the pilot, which together propel the ship of civilized progress.
Which emotions cause people to act? There are four basic ones; each, or a combination of several, can trigger the most incredible activity. The day that you allow these emotions to fuel your desire is the day you'll turn your life around.
1) DISGUST
One does not usually equate the word "disgust" with positive action. And yet properly channeled, disgust can change a person's life. The person who feels disgusted has reached a point of no return.
He or she is ready to throw down the gauntlet at life and say, "I've had it!" That's what I said after many humiliating experiences at age 25, I said. "I don't want to live like this anymore. I've had it with being broke. I've had it with being embarrassed, and I've had it with lying."
Yes, productive feelings of disgust come when a person says, "Enough is enough."
The "guy" has finally had it with mediocrity. He's had it with those awful sick feelings of fear, pain and humiliation. He then decides he is not going to live like this anymore." Look out! This could be the day that turns a life around.
Call it what you will, the "I've had it" day, the "never again" day, the "enough's enough" day. Whatever you call it, it's powerful! There is nothing so life-changing as gut-wrenching disgust!
2) DECISION
Most of us need to be pushed to the wall to make decisions. And once we reach this point, we have to deal with the conflicting emotions that come with making them. We have reached a fork in the road.
Now this fork can be a two-prong, three-prong, or even a four-prong fork. No wonder that decision- making can create knots in stomachs, keep us awake in the middle of the night, or make us break out in a cold sweat.
Making life-changing decisions can be likened to internal civil war. Conflicting armies of emotions, each with its own arsenal of reasons, battle each other for supremacy of our minds.
And our resulting decisions, whether bold or timid, well thought out or impulsive, can either set the course of action or blind it. I don't have much advice to give you about decision-making except this:
Whatever you do, don't camp at the fork in the road. Decide. It's far better to make a wrong decision than to not make one at all. Each of us must confront our emotional turmoil and sort out our feelings.
3) DESIRE
How does one gain desire? I don't think I can answer this directly because there are many ways. But I do know two things about desire:
a. It comes from the inside not the outside. b. It can be triggered by outside forces.
Almost anything can trigger desire. It's a matter of timing as much as preparation. It might be a song that tugs at the heart. It might be a memorable sermon.
It might be a movie, a conversation with a friend, a confrontation with the enemy, or a bitter experience. Even a book or an article such as this one can trigger the inner mechanism that will make some people say, "I want it now!"
Therefore, while searching for your "hot button" of pure, raw desire, welcome into your life each positive experience. Don't erect a wall to protect you from experiencing life.
The same wall that keeps out your disappointment also keeps out the sunlight of enriching experiences. So let life touch you. The next touch could be the one that turns your life around.
4) RESOLVE
Resolve says, "I will." These two words are among the most potent in the English language. I WILL.
Benjamin Disraeli, the great British statesman, once said, "Nothing can resist a human will that will stake even its existence on the extent of its purpose." In other words, when someone resolves to "do or die," nothing can stop him.
The mountain climber says, "I will climb the mountain. They've told me it's too high, it's too far, it's too steep, it's too rocky, it's too difficult. But it's my mountain. I will climb it.
You'll soon see me waving from the top or you'll never see me, because unless I reach the peak, I'm not coming back." Who can argue with such resolve?
When confronted with such iron-will determination, I can see Time, Fate and Circumstance calling a hasty conference and deciding, "We might as well let him have his dream. He's said he's going to get there or die trying."
The best definition for "resolve" I've ever heard came from a schoolgirl in Foster City, California. As is my custom, I was lecturing about success to a group of bright kids at a junior high school.
I asked, "Who can tell me what "resolve" means?" Several hands went up, and I did get some pretty good definitions.
But the last was the best. A shy girl from the back of the room got up and said with quiet intensity, "I think resolve means promising yourself you will never give up."
That's it! That's the best definition I've ever heard:
ORANGE PROMISE YOURSELF YOU'LL NEVER GIVE UP.
Think about it! How long should a baby try to learn how to walk? How long would you give the average baby before you say, "That's it, you've had your chance"? You say that's crazy? Of course it is. Any mother would say, "My baby is going to keep trying until he learns how to walk!" No wonder everyone walks.
There is a vital lesson in this. Ask yourself, "How long am I going to work to make my dreams come true?" I suggest you answer, "As long as it takes." That's what these four emotions are all about.

PROFITS ARE BETTER THAN WAGES by Jim Rohn

My mentor, when I was 25 years old, dropped a phrase on me that changed my life forever when he said, "profits are better than wages. Wages will make you a living, profits can make you a fortune."
You know it is a bit difficult to get rich on wages, but anybody can get rich on profits. Profits change your whole attitude, even if you start part-time. Whether it's part time on your entrepreneurial business, network marketing company or service business.
It can be a landscape business in the summer or hanging Christmas lights in the winter. It can be training, consulting or tutoring.
It can be your hobby such as painting, writing, crafts, woodworking, computers or cooking. But once you start investing even part time effort into your own business, you will find how much more exciting it is to get up in the morning and go to work on your fortune, even if you're only spending a few hours a week doing it.
How empowering it is to be able to go to work on your fortune every day rather than going to work to pay the rent.
Now - it is noble to go to work to pay the rent, but if you could also parcel out part of your time - go to work to make your fortune. Your whole attitude changes; your spirit changes.
It is in your voice. It is in your face. It is in your gestures.
And then you can say, "I am now working full-time on my job and part-time on my fortune because I found a way to make profits." Wow!
