A Resource Guide for Jim Shore Collectibles

I have written so many articles on Jim Shore collectibles, that I thought a resource guide would be a good idea. There are hundreds of thousands of Jim Shore fans around the world. However, there are many people who have never heard of him. This article is for both the avid collector and those who are newly introduced to Jim Shore's art work.

Here you will find links to Jim Shore's website, articles I have written as well as other Squidoo lensmasters' articles on his work, videos of Jim Shore talking about his work and artistic influences, and places you can obtain his work.

Jim Shore, an American artist

Jim Shore grew up in South Carolina amongst a family of artistic people. His grandmother was a master quilter, his father a furniture craftsman, and his mother an artist. Although he started out his adult life working as an engineer, he continued to hone his art in his spare time. Eventually his passion for sculpture and painting took over and he started his own company called Designs Americana.

His company grew by leaps and bounds over its first three years. Eventually Mr. Shore contracted to partner with Enesco to be able to fulfill orders and expand the business. The Heartwood Creek line was born, and his name and work became known world-wide.

His business expanded even further when he partnered with Disney to provide art for the Disney Traditions line.

No matter which line of art he produces, Jim Shore's love of folk art and quilt patterns is evident in all of the pieces of art he designs. His creations are first sketched, then sculpted in wood and hand painted. The finished product is used to make molds from which resin pieces resembling hand carved wood are produced and hand painted.

Jim Shore's awards

NALED stands for the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers

According to The Teddy Baron, "The National Association of Limited Edition Dealers was formed in 1976. It is a non-profit national association serving the Gifts and Collectibles industry, and independent retailers make up the majority of its membership. While the NALED staff selects the nominees, NALED's members determine the final winners in each category.

NALED presents its achievement awards annually in recognition of "outstanding contributions for the world of collectibles." The awards are given for the prior year's products - so the 2003 awards are for products that were produced and distributed in 2002."

Jim Shore received the following NALED awards:
  1. NALED Rising Star 2002
  2. NALED Artist of the Year 2003
  3. NALED Christmas Collectible of the Year 2003
