In Germany, the Santa figure is known as Saint Nicholas and actually visits the children on December 6th. Jim Shore's version of a German Santa has him holding a stein and cuckoo clock, well known symbols of German arts and crafts.

Italian Santa

Babbo Natale, or Father Christmas, is becoming popular in Italy. However, in earlier times, there was no Santa figure. Italians celebrated an old woman, La Befana, who delivered gifts on Epiphany, January 6th. Jim Shore's Italian Santa has a staff with the leaning tower of Pisa on top.

Jim Shore has done a series of Lapland Santas which feature reindeers or a staff with antlers. Lapland, Finland now celebrates Santa Claus and even has a Christmas village representing Santa's workshop. He is known as Father Christmas as well.

    WOW@! I had no idea that "Santa" had a unique look right around the globe! "Santa as a Jolly-Fat-Toy making-Red Suit & White bearded guy is amazing with the artistic flare! My favorite is the Polish Santa, he is loaded with beautiful designs & colors!

    The video from youtube on the artist is super, I love hearing people talk about their creations and visions!

    Jim shore's Santas are lovely! As a Christmas tradition in our family, we get a new Santa figurine for our collection, Jim shore's Santas would be a great addition :) Beautiful page!
