Hi! Welcome to the lens for Jim Burnett, a writer and outdoor photographer who is among those fortunate enough to have enjoyed not just one, but two dream careers in his lifetime.

After three decades as a National Park Service Ranger at eight parks all across the country, Jim retired and pursued a longtime ambition to write. Information about his books, Hey Ranger! True Tales of Humor and Misadventure from America's National Parks and the sequel, Hey Ranger 2, is available at www.heyranger.com.

This lens will introduce you to Jim and his work, and also includes some suggested resources for other writers. Just for fun, he's added a few of his photos from the national parks and the great outdoors.

Jim also enjoys outdoor photography and has an extensive collection of images from national parks and other outdoor locations which are available for licensing or purchase. Click here for some samples of his photos, or see his lens about outdoor photography.

A little about Jim and his work.

In addition to his two books, Jim is a regular contributor to the on-line magazine National Parks Traveler. and some of his shorter pieces have been published in the Saturday Evening Post, Family History Magazine, Reminisce Extra and The Upper Room.

His professional memberships include the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the Outdoor Writers Association of America.

A fun spin-off from his writing has been the chance to share some of his stories via radio and TV. Jim has appeared on National Public Radio, ESPN Radio and a number of local TV and radio shows. He also enjoys speaking to civic, outdoor and church groups. If you'd like an entertaining and informative speaker for an upcoming event, or if you're a media representative looking for a story or guest on your show, he'd be glad to discuss that with you. Click here to contact him by e-mail.

Hey Jim, I love all your lenses. I too get the chance todo my dream job as a conservationist. How about writing a lens on what it takes to write a book, and the process of getting it published. Doesn't sound like you have retired at all. Way to go!
