An American of African, European, Cherokee Indian and Mexican descent. An unsettled home environment made Jimi spend much of his early years staying with his grandmother, a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, in Canada.

At 12 he got his first electric guitar. It shaped the next 16 years of his life.

His mother died when Jimi was 15.

In 1958, Al (his father) had purchased Jimmy a five-dollar, second-hand acoustic guitar and its how all began.

Some of his quotes make one think, as for example:

"Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens."

"If I'm free, it's because I'm always running."

"You have to give people something to dream on."

"Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel."
