Helps Homeless Teens
Not only is he easy on the eyes, his voice will totally mesmerize you. Yet let's take a look at what is most important to him, to his heart. Helping homeless teens.
Meet Me Halfway kicked off January 1, 2010 with Jimmy beginning a walk halfway across America. He left the parking lot of Monroe Harding (a Nashville based foster care group home) early on New Year's Day, with about 100 supporters walking the first few miles with him. With every step he takes, every mile he logs and every person he meets along the way, Jimmy is raising awareness of homeless children and teens, especially those who age out of the foster care system.
Jimmy Wayne will end his walk halfway across America in Phoenix, AZ. In addition to being a halfway point, Phoenix is also where another organization Jimmy supports is located-Home Base Youth Services. This organization also serves the needs of foster children, focusing on those who have aged out of the foster care system and find themselves homeless.

Raising Awareness
Jimmy Wayne survived a turbulent, abusive childhood. He was shuttled to a series of foster homes. He was a homeless teen, living by his wits on the street until a North Carolina couple named Russell and Beatrice Costner took him in and gave him a family. Before Russell and Bea, Jimmy was homeless and close to hopeless. He remembers the feeling of being without a family, without a home. He does this to raise awareness for those who may be facing circumstances similar to what he went through.

A look inside at what made him the man he is today. To learn more, read the rest of "his story", on Wikipedia.
Jimmy Wayne (Barber) was born on October 23, 1972 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. At the time of Wayne's birth, his mother was divorced from her first husband (Barber) but not married to Wayne's biological father, (Stewart), who was married to someone else. Because his mother still carried her first husband's last name, when Wayne was born, he was given the name 'Barber'. He has since dropped the last name 'Barber' having never known that man. His biological father abandoned him at an early age. He and his sister were sometimes raised in foster homes or were left with other people when their mother would leave them to go off with men or start drinking and doing drugs, or go to jail. She served four months in prison in 1985 when Wayne was 12. Wayne escaped a murder attempt made by one of his step-fathers when he was about 13. Allegedly, this same man did shoot and paralyze Wayne's sister-in-law, Cathy Barber. She was around 20 years old at the time. Sadly, she died from complications of her paralysis in 2009 at the age of 44 leaving behind a son, Lawrence. No one was ever charged or convicted for the shooting of Mrs. Barber. Wayne still keeps in contact with his mother, but the man that tried to kill him has since died. After entering a county home, Wayne ran away and lived with his mother for a brief time before living on the streets and with his sister, Patricia, for a short while. He eventually moved in with an elderly couple, Russell and Bea Costner, (just down the road from where his mother was living), after being hired to mow their lawn. After finishing high school, he worked as a guard at the Gaston Correctional Facility, where he took songwriting advice from an inmate. He earned an associate's degree in criminal justice at a community college. Afterwards he worked as a corrections officer for 4 years before moving to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his musical interests.

How Can I help
Will it Make a Difference?

Every time you watch TV, read the newspaper, someone needs help. Whether it be an individual, or a Country. You may ask yourself, "how can I help, will it make a difference?" Trust me, you can, and it will.
So many of our own right here in the United States are struggling to survive. Families with seriously ill children, homeless teens, need our help. We talk about them, yet do we step up?
Jimmy Wayne has a very kind soul and, is giving back through his Meet Me Halfway program, and has teamed up with Gold Canyon Candles, to raise money for his quest. As an Independent Demonstrator for Gold Canyon Candles, I too have donated my personal profits from our Candles For Kids line to needy families. I am not wealthy, but like Jimmy I have a strong desire to raise awareness for our children, teens, in need.
My personal goal is to sell 1000 Candles For Kids, this year.
I like to think of it like this, you purchase a candle, and you are giving two gifts in one, it's that simple. Are you willing to take that step?

Foster Youth Aging Out
Foster youth who are aging out do not have the option of turning to their families for support. Alone, these young people are confronting the harsh reality of the gap between the wages they earn and the cost of housing. As a result, youth aging out of the foster care system are becoming homeless at disconcerting rates. More than 20% of young adults aging out of the system experience homelessness. As many as 3 in 10 of the nation's homeless adults have a history in foster care.
