Jimmy Barnes is a popular Australian rock singer, with a unique vocal style.

Born James Dixon Swan on 28 April 1956 in Glasgow, Scotland, Barnes arrived in Adelaide, South Australia with his family on 7 January, 1961 and eventually settled in Elizabeth.

After his mother, Dorothy divorced and soon remarried Reg Barnes, she gave her children the option to change their surname to Barnes - allowing James Swan the ability to 'transition' to Jimmy Barnes.

Barnes is a well know solo performer and as the lead vocalist with the rock band Cold Chisel and he has become known as one of the most popular and best-selling Australian music artists of all time.

Barnes has the highest number of hit albums (in Australia) with a combination of 14 Australian Top 40 albums for Cold Chisel and 12 charting solo albums.

Jimmy Barnes started with Cold Chisel when he was just 17 years of age!

Cold Chisel: Khe Sahn - First Single


The Best of Cold Chisel

In 1978, Cold Chisel (the band that Barnes was lead vocalist for) released their first single - Khe Sahn.

Khe Sahn was banned from Commercial Radio, but secured Cold Chisel a very loyal fan following.

Today, Khe Sahn is played regularly on Commercial Radio in Australia and is considered one of the iconic Rock and Roll Anthems.

Father and Son

David Campbell and Jimmy Barnes

David Campbell was born in 1973 and raised by his Grandmother. According to Wikipedia, Campbell did not become aware that Barnes was his father and not merely a family friend until the mid-1980s.

In November 2008, Campbell released the following song featuring his Dad, Jimmy Barnes.
