Top Ten Jiu-Jitsu Submissions

Ranked #148 in Sports & Recreation, #7,217 overall

How to apply my top ten favorite jiu jitsu submissions via video instruction

Jiu jitsu is an ever evolving art form. It is still argued today of where jiu jitsu originated. On the other hand it is not argued who made jiu jitsu what it is today. The Gracie name is the holy grail in jiu jitsu. The Gracie family revolutionized jiu jitsu with their extreme attention to technique and incomparable skills. To this day only on American by the name of EDDIE BRAVO can say he submitted a Gracie.

#1. Rear Naked Choke

The contrived tree rends a healthy workload.

The mother of all submissions, any semi serious fighter knows this submission. I have won many jiu jitsu matches with this submission. The difficulty level is very low while the effiecency of this choke is out of the roof.

#2. Armbar

(mount position)

The arm bar is a common fighter favorite simply because of the multiple postitions you can apply this sub in a fight or match. The Arm Bar is one of the more difficult submissions to perfect It took me two months after I learned this submission to finally be able to actually submit an opponent with it. The Arm Bar hyperextends the elbow joint and its legiments. Often if a fighter does not submit their arm will be broken.

#3. Triangle Choke

The trianlge choke is a long legged fighter's bread and butter submission using thier long lower limbs to cut off the air to the brain. This is my personal favorite because of my long legs. This submission also allows many transitions to other postions and submissions depending on how your oppenents defends.

#4. Kimura

The kimura key lock attacks the shoulder joint. This submission is often used to sweep opponents rather than submit them. I recently won the AGA jiu jitsu competion with this particular submission.

#5 Guillotine Choke

The Guillontine is a beginner's go to submission. This choke is often applied when your opponent shoots for a take down and his neck area is easily accessible. The difficulty level is very low allowing beginner's some sucsess.

#6 Ankle Lock

This submission is in trouble of being banned entirely, many grappling tournaments do not allow ankle lock because its high impact on the ankle bone and joint. My last tounament band ankle locks as well as insided and outside heel hooks.

# 10. The D'arce Choke

The D'arce choke is different kind of choke than the rear nakeds and triangles the d'arce unlike other chokes cuts of the blood to the brain rather than air making this choke a little more legthy to get the tap.

Rubber Guard or Traditional Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Guard

Which is better Rubber Guard or BJJ Guard

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

BJJ Guard

mmaguru says:

both are great in their own way but Bjj takes the cake for me

seth says:

Bjj Gaurd is more functional unless your in a mma situation

Dan says:

rubber guard is useful but it's just one of many, many possibilities that all start from the bjj guard

Rich says:

the rubber guard doesn't exist without the bjj guard. rubber guard is cool and all, but it isn't something just anyone can do. Your knees and hips have to be able to take the strain, and not everyone can handle that.

the traditional BJJ guard is the better all-around guard, with the rubber guard serving as a specialty that has its place when the time calls for it.

BJJ guard = always a good choice.
Rubber guard = good choice when the situation calls for it.

nathan says:

BJJ is way better

Rubber Guard

DylanDoolitle says:

Rubber Guard is the best for ANY No-Gi situation, IMO. It eliminates the opponents ability to use sweat and strength to their advantage. This isn't really a problem with the GI obviously, but when the guy is sweaty and it's easy for him to muscle out of any submission, it's important to ALWAYS keep him broken down and always be clenching.

delariva says:

closed guard is great, but breaking opponent's posture is key. rubber guard leaves one arm free to work submissions or go deeper into rubber guard sequence, new york, chill dog, jiu claw etc. i still like closed guard, but i have a knack for open and de la riva

Jimmy says:

I'm able to get my testicles closer to their face, and my testicles stink so thats always a good thing.

tyler says:

basically the guard is the bjj guard... the rubber guard is just an advancement if you want to go for maybe a gogoplata or maybe an omoplata. you can even get the triangle which is my personal favorite from here. you cal also get those from the bjj guard. they are both effective and just depend on how you use them

Daryl says:

Rubber Guard and the BJJ Guard should be one in the same. Rubber Guard is another tool in a BJJ Guard. Rubber Guard is not the end all be all for the Guard, however I believe that is it a step forward for everyone that practices BJJ.
