JK Harris & Company LLC, founded in 1997, is comprised of a family of four companies. It is the largest tax resolution firm in the United States and has served more than 200,000 customers. Based out of North Charleston, South Carolina, JK Harris has more than 425 offices nationwide.

History

How it began

In September of 1997, John Harris began his tax resolution practice.
In April of 1998, after a six-month trial in six cities in North and South Carolina, the company opened 450 satellite sales offices in 44 states and eight regional operations centers over the next three years.
In October of 1998, JKH hired its sixth sales consultant and opened its 48th satellite sales office and second regional operations center.

In January of 2000, JKH started its financial planning division to assist those who did not qualify for an Offer in Compromise because they had more equity in assets than the tax liability. And, for those small business prospects who owed the IRS back taxes due to failure to keep proper accounting books, JKH started its small business services division, offering bookkeeping and tax compliance services.

In February of 2001, the company developed a plan to consolidate all of its eight regional operations centers in Charleston, SC, to improve efficiency..
In October of 2002, JKH formalized the purchase of its Call Center in Florida. The company had taken over operation of the Call Center in the summer of 2000.
In September of 2007, JK Harris celebrates its 10th anniversary and contracts its 200,000th customer.

The company secures Limited Power of Attorney designation, becoming the client's ally, representative, and negotiator to resolve the tax liability with the IRS.

Tax professionals ease any immediate tax crisis, get clients into compliance and begin the process of settling the debt in the most favorable way possible. This is usually done through an Offer in Compromise when it is unlikely that the tax liability can be collected in full.

The Offer amount is based upon the client's financial position and their ability to repay the debt. Once accepted, the IRS will work out a payment arrangement, usually installment or lump sum payments.

JK Harris Advisors works with individuals who can benefit from a comprehensive financial plan that can help them deal with tax liabilities and long-term financial goals.

Most clients seek a plan initially because they do not qualify for an Offer in Compromise and need advice on the best way to repay the tax debt. Others may have mismanaged their finances, perhaps because of large inheritances, lottery winnings or poor business decisions, and need expert financial guidance to reduce their taxes, repay liabilities and plan for the future.

Based on the client's financial goals and the personal and financial data they provide, JK Harris tax professionals, financial planners and investment advisors map out a detailed written program with specific recommendations on how the client can reach their goals.

The plan may include analyses of assets; liabilities and net worth; investment planning; cash flow and budget analysis; plans for income tax, education, retirement and insurance; and plans and valuations for owners of small businesses. Clients also receive five hours of professional financial counseling for one year.
