Test Your JLPT Kanji Skills!

Ranked #2,978 in Education, #69,449 overall

Test your JLPT kanji skills with this kanji quiz!

Based on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) test content specification for levels N1 and N2, and with some inspiration from the example guidebook for the new JLPT level N3.

The test consists of 50 questions. The first part is 10 questions where you choose the correct readings for words written in kanji. Then comes 10 questions where you match meanings with kanji characters. After that come 5 questions where you match a certain Japanese word reading with specific kanji writings, then 5 questions where you select the correct kanji for one of the characters in a word. The last 20 questions require you to choose the correct kanji for a part of a given Japanese sentence. The first 10 of these are for whole words, while the last 10 questions are for words written with a kanji followed by okurigana. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the test!

JLPT level N1, N2, and N3 kanji test

Based on the JLPT test content specification

A score of 75% or above means you're ready for JLPT N1! Above 60% and you're around JLPT N2 level. Score close to 50% and you should have a decent chance at JLPT N3. Good luck!

Learn some real Japanese!

This stuff WON'T appear on the JLPT!

Dirty Japanese: Everyday Slang from "What's Up?" to "F*%# Off!" (Dirty Everyday Slang)

Amazon Price: $5.24 (as of 02/17/2012)Buy Now

The JLPT is great for learning formal and academic Japanese, but this book is a really good complement for anyone who wants to learn how to speak more down to earth, everyday type Japanese, including some obscenities.

My favorite Kanji book

I recommend this one for anyone who's interested in kanji

A Guide to Remembering Japanese Characters (Tuttle language library)

Amazon Price: $16.04 (as of 02/17/2012)Buy Now

This book is nothing less than an etymological kanji dictionary of all the 2000+ joyo (everyday use) kanji! For each kanji character, it presents its history in brief, references it to associated characters, tells its story of how it has evolved into its current form, and also its readings (both kun and on readings) and three example words/compound words written using the character. Of all the Japanese learning-related books I own, this one is by far the one I've gotten the most out of. I heartily recommend this one!
