Joana's Horde Leveling Guide Review: A Rogue's Perspective

Welcome! This Joana's Horde Leveling Guide review will be a little different from most reviews you've seen, in a couple of ways:

1. I am actually a WoW player, have been since release day.
2. I actually own the guide.
3. I will be using the guide to level up a character, and will blog that character's progress, so you get a very hands-on point of view. A feed to those blog entries appears below.

What Do I Get With Joana's Horde Leveling Guide?

Joana's Guide comes in both a website and PDF format. The HTML version also includes links to Youtube videos demonstrating how some of the quests are done. Both the PDF and HTML guides include maps and hyperlinks to the quests' entries on Allakhazam.

Joana's Guide includes free updates as new content is added, which is a feature that stands out compared to printed guide books.

The layout is simple, and sparse. There is a brief introduction describing how to use the guide, then the actual leveling sections start right away. Joana doesn't make you wait long to get to the good stuff.

The guide is divided into headers describing the area and the levels reached in that section. Then numbered steps for that section of the guide follow, giving you step by step instructions. The instructions are short and to the point. Each section has a map accompanying it, which shows you the numbered steps with arrows leading from one step to the next.

Hunter only sections are indicated with maroon text. A nice feature for hunters is that the Guide also details exactly which animals to tame as pets to gain your pet abilities as you level up.

Do I Need Anything Besides Joana's Guide to Level Fast?

Joana's Guide recommends the MetaMap mod to get coordinates, and that's the mod I'm currently using. Another good mod is Cartographer.

You will also want to get an in game quest information guide, like LightHeaded (what I use) or Quest Helper. The leveling guide shows you which quests to do, and in what order, but aside from a few short tips, doesn't detail how to do them. (The resulting document would be of a wholly unmanageable length if it did.)

The mods I mentioned will give you detailed quest information, should you need it, right in the game. LightHeaded, for example, has a sliding panel that pops out of the side of the default quest log and gives all of the WoWHead comments for each quest.

This saves a ton of time tabbing out to a website to look up that little detail you may be missing.

Introducing Memories, Undead Rogue

Memories is a brand new Undead Rogue that I'll be starting in the Blood Elf starting area. She's on a PVP server, and will probably be replacing my feral druid as my main character there.

I'll be leveling Memories with a Combat Swords build, and expect her to do alright with Joana's Guide, since Rogues are also strong solo characters, and have a few panic buttons at their disposal.
