Your CV
This is the first thing that an employer will see before seeing you. There are lots of free tools and templates that you can use online to tweak your CV and make it look really professional and well laid out.
Here is a link that contains many CV templates, One of these I used as a template for my very own CV!

Employers will only spend a short time looking at your CV, some have to file through hundreds of applications. If your CV is too long winded or not layed out in a good order it will probably end up in the recycling pile. Remember you don't have to right a biography just keep things short and factual.
Covering Letters
This is not essential although you can use this as a good opportunity to expand on why you feel you are the best qualified person for the job. It's also a good idea to include any contact information on the covering letter with your title and signature incase your employer has any questions regarding your application, skills or avaliability.
Again remember your goal is to advertise and offer your services to your potential employers.

Preparation
You have been shortlisted for a Job interview..... Great NewsNow its time to prepare for the next stage.
Ideally you need to be doing this at least a week in advance of the interview. Gather all your documents that you will need and keep these stored in a folder in a safe place.
Take time to think of questions that you will ask during the interview, look at the job description and what your employer's essentials are asking.
Do some research on the company, find out what they do, what products they manufacturer / services they offer
Dig out your best suit and tie and polish your best shoes. Remember you need to look smart and present yourself so make it a priority to do and prepare well before hand.
Presentation is paramount.
During the Interview
Relax. It is normal to feel nervous, and your employer understands this.
Arrive at the interview at least 30 minutes before it is due to start. Use this time to calm your nerves and run over the interview questions. Practise deep breathing and keep on telling yourself that your going to do this, Tell yourself that you are going to be confident and you have what it takes to do this job.
This time is often the most crucial, allowing yourself time to relax and get into the right frame of mind will give you that extra advantage. More often than not convincing yourself that you are good at a skill or the right person for the job will make you feel and look more confident when your employer comes to interview you.
This is also a golden opportunity for you to interview the employer and there company, Make sure you know a bit about the company and what do / manufacturer / services they offer. Have plenty of practical questions to ask, How many people work here, what's the management structure like.

The Result
If you don't get accepted, the best thing you can do is take this on the chin. Thank your employer for their time and ask them for some feedback on the interview. This is a good opportunity for you to find out why they didnt accept you and what you could have done better for next time.Remember
Regardless of your employers decision why they decided to decline and not take your application further,
Don't storm out or argue the case,
Remember the attitude you come in with, should be the same as the attitude you go out with
This is a particularly important however hard it may seem they will remember you and you will leave a positive attitude behind, which can work out to your advantage if they interview again.
Dont Give Up
Finding a job can be hard in today's market. Unfortunately there's no fail-safe method that will get you a job however, if you want to drastically increase your chances of finding another job you will need to actively do a job search on a daily basis.Make a list of skills that you can do and then try and match the skills with a possible job opportunity, even if the job is a simple cleaners job or of a similar nature, This will give you something additional to put down on your CV and will make your changes of seeking another job more successful.
It is a lot easier to move into another job while your still in employment as having a job no matter what the job is to an employer this is a good sign. IT will show to your employer that you are reliable and punctual, you can get up every day, make it to work and do your job.

- Great lends, can't emphasis enough the "don't give up" aspect, the economy is in the dumps right now but there are still jobs for those who keep at it.
