Autodesk Revit Software - Building Information Modeling (BIM)
The Revit JobCaptain Lens is dedicated to the business, technical and management considerations for implementing Autodesk Revit-platform products. You'll find links to downloads for Revit software, news feeds, sources for Revit training and implementation.
It defines & discusses the current-emerging trends and technologies that are reshaping the business models of building design firms. The business, design, workflow, marketing, collaboration and construction management processes that are reshaped in a BIM design process.
Facility owners (the client) are clearly redefining deliverables. Paper drawings and simple CAD files don't meet their lifecycle management needs. BIM (Autodesk Revit) and object-based (Autodesk ADT) technologies produce the new client deliverables.

- FSPViewer Panoramic Viewer
- FSPViewer is a free viewer for spherical (equirectangular) panoramic images. Revit can create these types of JPGs. It is designed for viewing local (hard-disk, network or CD) high resolution panoramic images at full screen and with very high image quality. It uses advanced interpolation algorithms to show you smooth images without losing sharpness.
- Lighting Families - VISA Lighting
- Visa Lighting offers a comprehensive BIM product library. The BIM files contain meta-data to assist in energy, sustainability, and photometric calculations.
BIM also removes the barriers between design and collaboration; projects proceed smoothly as errors are reduced or eliminated, less waste of resources and time result in improved, superior projects of superior quality. Our dedication to the design community dictates we assume a leadership role in extending the graphic capabilities of this powerful tool. - Revit Family Libraries - BIMWorld - BIM Library
- BIMLIBRARY and BIMWORLD are resources for designers & architects looking for manufacturer-specific product content that is available free-of-charge and approved to be technically accurate by our product partners. Your models and construction documents take on a new level of specificity without incurring the costs of development.
- Revit Family Libraries - RevitCity - Revit Users Community
- RevitCity has more than 260,000 registered users.
Users have created more than 11,000 free Revit families-components for download. User tutorials and technical forums provide additional daily resources for this global Revit community.
Pros: RevitCity provides a global vision to newcomers on how Revit users are "really" using Revit software for "real world" projects. Check out the project galleries submitted by this global community of architects, engineers and designers.
Cons: Not all of the free Revit family downloads and/or technical solutions content have the same level of quality and usability. Not all Revitcity users have taken formal training. Therefore, not all submissions represent best practices for creating Revit content and/or for properly implementing Revit software within a BIM design process. - Revit MEP Content Extensions
- The Revit MEP Content Extension provides new content for Revit MEP users. Both Imperial and Metric versions of the content are available for download below, in ZIP format. After download, users can uncompress the file to the desired content location

Revit Project Implementation
The successful use of Revit requires planning.
- Our Home In Revit
- We're experiencing the benefits of design-build and working with a contractor that has embraced 3D modeling (BIM) throughout the design and production process.
As I look back over the last few years of design, the following items stood out as the main Revit features to help me design a house that could be constructed cost effectively, provide a level of sustainability and incorporate a little universal design. - Designing A Greener Home With Revit
- I used more than a dozen Revit features to simulate and analyze building design options affecting our home's energy efficiency.
- Revit's 10 Best ROI Features for Your First Pilot Project.
- This is a list of the 10 best features in Revit that offer the biggest Return On Investment (ROI) in the first phase of implementation. I initially established this list when I started helping our clients implement Revit 3-1/2 years ago. Our clients have been able to immediately use these features on their first pilot projects. Many of these features just simply do not exist in other CAD or object-based software programs.
- Revit Architecture 2008: Enhanced Tools for Large or Complex Projects
- Revit Architecture 2008 (formerly named Autodesk Revit Building) boasts new feature functionality that is especially noteworthy to those of us working on construction drawings for large or more complex projects. It's not to say they can't be used on smaller projects.
