Some people believe that gigantic werewolves with retractable claws and razor-sharp fangs live on the other side. Would you have the courage to cross the bridge?
On a warm August night, three teenagers, Jared Baker, Harold Prioleau, and Chase Avignone make a trip to the covered bridge. But only Harold and Chase return home. What happened to Jared?
Chase Avignone is a high school football star with a secret. He's bigger, faster, and stronger than everyone else on the field. Why? Is he taking steroids? Human growth hormone? Or is there some other reason why he's such a beast on the gridiron?
When Jacksonville police detectives Logan Michaels and Cai Nguyen delve into Jared's disappearance, their investigation leads them to Chase Avignone and his shocking secret.
Are the werewolves of Jacksonville County real or are they just an urban legend? You'll have to cross the bridge to find the truth.
Joel Eden lives in Chantilly, Virginia with his wife, Kaye, two sons, Andrew and Michael, and his golden retriever, Louise. Joel loves Virginia Tech football (Go Hokies!) and coaching youth sports. He is also the author of Lazarus Kaine, the story of a man who loses control of his fears. And he's afraid of werewolves.

Lazarus Kaine
A Novel by Joel Eden
What we fear, we create. Most people have rather benign, run-of-the-mill phobias such as a fear of spiders, heights, or public speaking. But what happens when fear becomes so consuming that it seizes control of a person's life?
Matt Curtis, a senior manager with a consulting company, is overwhelmed with self-doubt. His personal life is falling apart, and his job is like quicksand, threatening to swallow him at any moment. His ultimate fear is being alone. And that fear has come to call on Curtis as a supernatural creature made of shadows who answers to the name Lazarus Kaine.
On a mission to terrorize Curtis, Kaine removes one woman after another from Curtis's life through a series of bizarre and brutal murders that leave police baffled and Curtis filled with grief, stricken with terror, and looking suspect.
Curtis must decide whether he will stand by and let Kaine dismantle his life, and kill innocent women in the process, or muster the courage to wrestle his fear and use it to his advantage.
Bizarre murders, intense sexual intrigue, and reckless psychological twists make this an intense thriller. After you read this book, every time you see a shadow move, you'll think about Lazarus Kaine.

My writing process
I like to write about the dark places of the human mind where fear lives and breathes. That's how I came up with Lazarus Kaine.I started writing this book in 1991. I was a management consultant for many years and I didn't have much time to devote to writing. It took me a long time to figure out how to structure the plot and create interesting characters. Finally, in 2003, I left the corporate world and started writing full time. Working in my home office, I get to spend time with my kids and my golden retriever, Louise. As you can see, Louise loves to read. She thinks she's my editor, but she can't type very fast. Her paws are too big and she doesn't have thumbs.
I like to write in the morning when my brain is fresh. By the mid-afternoon, my head is cluttered with junk. Then when my kids get home, it's time for homework and sports practices, so my writing day is over.
I typically write 1,000 to 1,500 words a day, which equals approximately one chapter. I like to keep my chapters short so readers can bite off small chunks at a time. I usually have a couple of books in progress. You can see descriptions of the novels in my pipeline below.
If you have any questions about the writing process ... just ask!
Novel in progress ... Cry of the Wampus Cat
This is a description of another novel I'm currently working on called Cry of the Wampus Cat. I hope to have it out in the early part of 2010.Two hundred years ago, Kasa, a young Indian woman, did not trust her husband. She suspected that while he was on hunting trips, he was seeing another woman.
One night, she decided to spy on her husband. Placing the hide of a mountain cat on her back for camouflage, she crept through the woods in search of the truth. She came upon a camp fire and saw her husband making love to another woman.
As shock and jealousy raced through Kasa's body, the other woman sensed her presence. Chanting an ancient Indian curse, the woman transformed Kasa into what is known as a wampus cat ... half woman, half mountain cat.
Legends say that the children of Kasa still walk the hills of Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia, inflicting vengeance on cheating husbands.
Is this just an old southern myth? Or could it be true?
I have a secret ...
Shhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone. This is for your eyes only.
My name is not Joel Eden. My real name is ... Dale Alderman. I also write children's books and humor books. I like to separate those works from my horror books because, honestly, would you buy a children's book from a guy who writes horror? Probably not. Joel Eden was my grandfather. I miss him very much and I'm proud to use his name.
Now that my secret is out, here is a list of my other books. They're not scary. I promise.
These are a couple of my favorite books ...
