Hi, I'm Johann!
This is my lensography - or Johannography, if you'd like. Explore, share, learn and, by all means, have fun!
I'm a pretty busy pup. Got my own website - JohannTheDog.com and Dog Blog - and I do agility, herding when I get the chance, and help raise money for dog shelters and rescues.
My absolute favorite thing in the entire world, well besides my Mum, of course, is agility. Yep, Dog Agility. And I like other dog sports too.
Since I got involved in dog sports, many pups and humans wanted to know how they could be involved, learn more or get started in sports. Then we found Squidoo - and decided to utilize this great forum to direct people to all kinds of resources on dog sports.
Then we branched out into other dog related lenses. We're just getting started, so watch for more lenses coming soon!
I'm a Giant Squid and a member of the Giant Squidoo Top 100 Club!

On September 19, 2007, I was incredibly honored to learn I became a member of the Squidoo pack that calls themselves the Giant Squids! And on July 2, 2008, I became a member of the new Giant Squidoo Top 100 Club for having 100 quality Squidoo lenses!
They are the cream of the crop, best of the pack, top of the heap, Squidooers. Oh, and did I mention they are a great bunch of two-leggers, with a few four-leggers thrown in! You couldn't ask for more professional, nice, supportive bunch of Squids!

One day I was reading about my blogging friend, Tish, and how she saved her pup Cruella from choking. I am so glad she knew what to do!
It's so important to know information on how to perform CPR on your dog! You just never know what can happen.
In my lens I bring you information on how to learn CPR and when to use it. As my Mum always says, BE PREPARED!

A Saint and a blessing!
Saint Francis of Assisi (September 26, 1181 - October 3, 1226) was a Roman Catholic friar and the founder of the Order of Friars Minor, more commonly known as the Franciscans. He is known as the patron saint of animals, birds, and the environment, and it is customary for Catholic churches to hold ceremonies honoring animals around his feast day of October 4.These ceremonies are often called Animals Blessings! This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures. Visit my lenses and learn more!

Featured Lens - The scoop on doo!
Recently I got a mild bout of gastroenteritis. Not a fun thing 'cause it comes with the "Big D" and a real upset tummy. For two weeks, it was all about my doo! Was it solid, was it runny, what color was it. They even looked at it under a microscope. What????What I learned was my 'output' is a very important guage in the status of my health, and all pups health. So in honor of my little to do about the 'doo', I decided to create this lens - a mish mash of all things doodie!
Here's to the power of the poo! Visit the Scoop on Doo!
Book and book reviews!
The Art of Racing in the Rain
Being a dog, I love to read a book from a dog's point of view. And Enzo, narrator of "The Art of Racing in the Rain" doesn't fail me. He's thoughtful, poignant, philosophical, intelligent, reflective, hopeful, supportive and a loyal friend.
"The Art of Racing in the Rain" captured me from the start. Maybe it's because I'm a dog, and maybe it's because I love racing, but mostly because it was a great story!
The Agility Advantage
If you need to keep your agility dog in shape, this is the book for you!
Each short chapter of the book stands alone and provides a wealth of information on topics ranging from how dogs are built, how dogs move, how to feed and exercise, help them move faster and healthier, stretching and strengthening exercises and much more.
Shaping Success
When Mum got my sis, Gracie, she needed something to help her be not only the best dog she could be, but help her learn agility from the ground up! And she found just the book - Shaping Success by Susan Garrett. It includes a wealth of information from puppy basics, to games for building focus and motivation, to training reliable contacts and weaves.
All About Agility
This book was my first agility book and I loved it. It told me and my Mum all about the sport of agility, how to get good training advice, how to enter trials, all the different venues, and best of all - how to get those ribbons and titles! It is a great book for beginning agility enthusiasts - but be careful, you'll get addicted!
Summer reading for dog lovers!
I love a good book, a suspenseful mystery, an amazing true story, and a great fictional tale! And Summer is our favorite time to read a good book. So we got to thinking about some great reads that dog lovers would really enjoy this summer. Here's a list of some of our favorite books and some that are on our list to read this Summer.

Some of my favorites!
Johann's favorite dog food and treats!
Lots of folks ask me all the time what kind of food I eat, and what kind of treats I like.
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, so I have to be very careful about what I eat. My IBS is 'triggered' when I come in contact with anything with preservatives, artificial flavors or colorings, and anything that's not all-natural.
My favorite dog harness!
Harnesses are an important item for us pups. And it's not easy to find one that fits well, doesn't restrict your movement, and doesn't have nasty buckles to rub your shoulders. But that's just what we found with our new Puppia Harness.
Johann's favorite homemade dog treats!
Sit, down, play dead, spin, beg, shake paw, high five, wave - I'll do just about anything for a treat!
But treats can be expensive - especially if you purchase organic, all natural treats like we do. And some treats have nasty ingredients that aren't really good for us pups. So Mum will often make me some treats at home!
Honoring canine military heroes throughout history!
This is USMC Sargeant Stubby, hero and veteran of WWI, and perhaps the most decorated War Dog in history.Working along side brave soldiers, K9 Corps have helped soldiers fight for our freedom throughout history - saving many, many lives, with no regard for their own.
This lens honors those canine military heroes and is dedicated to thousands of dogs that have given their lives to military service over the years.
Health and care!

It's so important to know information on how to perform CPR on your dog! You just never know what can happen. Here we bring you information on how to learn CPR and when to use it. As my Mum always says, BE PREPARED!

The benefits of massage are great. It can promote good circulation and flexibility, and alleviate arthritic pain. Other benefits include aiding in surgical recovery, helping pets heal from emotional or physical traumas, and improved muscle tone.
Canine acupuncture
Acupuncture is primarily used for ailments such as paralysis, allergies, and pain, and can also aid in skin problems, musculoskeletal issues, gastrointestinal and respiratory issues, and breeding and hormonal problems.
Brushing your dogs teeth
Keeping your pups teeth is so important. Keeping them healthy, keeps us healthy, because one of the leading diseases in us dogs is peridontal disease. And gum disease can lead to a host of other health problems.
Trimming your dogs nails
Trimming your pups nails is very important. More important than you may think!
The importance of dog blood donation
Each day throughout the country dogs need blood for serious procedures from accidents and illness. Without dog blood donors, veterinary surgeons could not perform these important and lifesaving operations.

Interesting and fun!
Painting Dogs
Yep that's right, dogs can paint. I did! See that painting on the left? I did that the day before my first Gotcha Day in September 2005. And there are other dogs that paint - like Tillamook Cheddar, who paintings fetch thousands of dollars. And the amazing Shore Service Dogs who paint for charity!

A Tribute to Pete from "Our Gang" and the "Little Rascals"
"He was a gentle, playful and warm dog. He would sleep at the foot of my bed. He was just the regular family dog. I really miss him." -Harry Lucenay
Petey made kids laugh! And he was known as a registered as an American Pit Bull Terrier, one of the most misrepresented breeds in the country.
Little known and interesting dog facts
There's a lot to us dogs! No really, we're a pretty interesting species! Mum and I were surfing around the Internet the other day and found out some facts about dogs that we didn't know! Some we did, but some we didn't. So we put together this lens of little known and interesting facts about dogs.
Hiking with your dog
Hiking is great exercise for both me and Mum. And the best part it's fun! We get to see lots of great scenery, smell some wonderful fresh air (and dead stuff, too), and we get to spend time together having a great time.
Teach your dog to swim
Contrary to pupular believe, dogs don't always know how to swim. Most have the intuition to paddle and keep afloat, but many lack water confidence. The best thing to do? Teach them how!
Teach your dog to walk on a treadmill
When I got my last injury, an iliopsoas muscle pull, at an agility trial in January 2008, I had a lot of rehab to do to get back in shape for running agility again. Mum helped me with lots of stretching and strengthening exercises, but she also taught me how to walk on a treadmill to get in additional exercise.
Homemade frosty paws
One reason that I love Summer is because my Mum makes me, and my sis Gracie, homemade frosty paws! They are great Summer treats - tasty, yummy, healthy, and a pawriffic cool treat on a really hot day.
Prison dogs!
These transformational prison dog training programs are making an incredible impact on the prisoners, the dogs, and the people they help.

Safety first!
Car safety for dogs!On a very hot, 90 degree day in July 2007, coming back from an agility trial, me, my sis Gracie, and Mum were involved in a dangerous car accident on Interstate I-70 just west of Dayton, Ohio. We are OK, but it was a very scary situation, and one we don't ever want to repeat. One thing is certain, if Mum hadn't had us restrained in the car...well, I just hate to think of what could have happened to me and Gracie. View our lens and learn the importance of restraining your pup in your vehicle and the various methods available!
Keeping Cool Dogs out of Hot Cars!
Year after year, dogs left in hot, locked cars suffer debilitating injuries and horrible deaths. We are here to help create awareness and educate; and encourage you to help prevent needless suffering!
