1917, May 29: Born in Brookline, Massachusetts
1963, November 22: Died in Dallas (shot to death by Lee Harvey Oswald)

Father: The indomitable Joseph Kennedy (Was Ambassador to Great Britain 1937-1940)
Mother: Rose Fitzgerald (Boston socialite)

Brothers/Sisters : Nine including Robert Kennedy (US Attorney General assassinated in 1968) and Edward Kennedy (Senator from Massachusetts  since 1962)



At 46 years Kennedy became the fourth president to be assassinated (the eighth to die in office)

1936/1940: Attended Harvard. Majoring in Political Science .Graduated "cum laude"

1941: Join the Navy (Skipper of a PT boat. Boat was sunk by a Japanese destroyer)

1946: Entered politics (elected to Congress)

1952: Ran against Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr (Massachusetts ).He won

1953, September 12:Married Jacqueline Bouvier (Wealthy socialite and photographer). They had three children : Caroline, John Fitzgerald, Jr. (died in a 1999 plane crash), and Patrick Bouvier (died in infancy)

1957: Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize for "Profiles in Courage"

1960: Won the Democratic presidential nomination on the first ballot at the Los Angeles convention. With only 118,574 votes carried the election over Vice President Richard M. Nixon. Became the first Roman Catholic president

During his stay in the White House dealt with problems at home, abroad and his goal to get to the moon by the end of the 60's found overwhelming support. 10 Year Alliance for Progress to aid Latin America, founded the Peace Corps

1961 April: Failure the Bay of Pigs debacle. Entrenchment of the Castro regime

1962: It was known that Soviet offensives missiles were installed in Cuba. Kennedy ordered a naval quarantine. To avoid a potential nuclear war, Krushchev ordered the removal of the missiles

1962 August 6: Agreement with the Soviet Union (Nuclear Test Ban Treaty with Britain and the USSR)

Kennedy proposals for medical care for the aged, aid to education were defeated. Won important victories on other topics : minimum wage, trade legislation. Because of racial disorders and demonstrations he proposed sweeping civil rights legislation (However, his legislative programs would not pass until after his death).He also recommended a cut of $11-billion tax to bolster the economy

1963, 22 November: Riding in an automobile procession in Dallas he was shot to death (the killer was firing from an upper floor of a building). The then presumed killer Lee Harvey Oswald was killed in the Dallas City Jail two days after by Jack Ruby

Interment in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia

Posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on December 6, 1993
