John Muir - Wilderness Prophet and Father of The National Parks System
The United States is forever indebted to John Muir, the "Father of the National Park Service" forĀ helping to preserve what many believe to be this countries greatest treasures, our National Parks.
John Muir (1838-1914) was America's most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist and one of California's most important historical personalities. He has been called a "Wilderness Prophet," and "Citizen of the Universe" and the man who made the U.S. go green.
Having grown up on the Northern Border of Yosemite and spent so much time hiking in Yosemite and enjoying the beauty in the park, I am grateful he had the vision to help preserve this area and other wilderness areas.
Because of John Muir's foresight and political lobbying generations of people to continue to use natural wilderness and I can share my childhood experiences with my own children.
John Muir's life reminds us of the important things that just one person can do. He remains today an inspiration for environmental activists everywhere.
