John Wayne built the base for his acting career in the 1930s by starring in a series of Westerns and other action movies. Texas Terror, released in 1935, is one of several B-Westerns from Monogram Pictures that starred Wayne.

In Texas Terror Wayne portrays Sheriff John Higgins, who resigns as sheriff because he thinks he killed his best friend during a shootout with a bunch of thieves. Ed Williams (portrayed by George "Gabby" Hayes) takes over as sheriff when Higgins resigns. Higgins meets his dead friend's sister, Bess Matthews (portrayed by Lucile Brown), and helps her with her ranch. Things get interesting when Bess Matthews learns about Higgins' past.
