John Denver—Mystic, Humanitarian, Planetarian
Ranked #9,936 in Music, #263,520 overall
The Voice of my 70s
John Denver was an amazing song writer and singer who was 20 years ahead of his time with his messages. His messages weren't fear-based (We are doomed!) but love of life. In his own words John said, "My purpose in performing is to communicate the joy I feel in living."
Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. he found his soul purpose at the age 11 when his grandmother gave him a guitar.
At the age of 20 he moved to Los Angeles to make his way in the music industry. Luckily someone convinced him to change his name. He chose the capitol of his beloved state of Colorado to become his last name.
John was a man ahead of his times. He was deeply committed to environmental causes and to creating a peaceful and tolerant planet. He was one of the first western performers in Russia in the mid 80s as well as in China where he found out that they loved "Country Roads."
John might never have inspired the critics with his simple manner but the people of the world adored him. He had 14 gold albums and 8 platinum albums in the U.S.alone.
John also won many music awards. Shortly before his tragic and untimely death in 1997 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Thank you, John, for 30 plus years of joyful performances.

Annie's Song
One of the most amazing love songs ever.
Did John Ever Get Over Annie?
John's personal life seemed to lose heart somehow, when he and Annie split up. There were rumors they were beginning a new friendship in the 90s after his divorce from his second wife.
Would he and Annie have gotten back together?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byNo. He moved on.
Yes. He's still waiting for her.
Rocky Mountain High
I was constantly blissed out in my teen years by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
I'm a Country Girl
I was a very shy teenager but in '74 I was at a party when this song came on. I grabbed some guy and started doing a hoe down dance. The whole room was cheering and laughing. And there were even guys interested in me! Who knew it would take John Denver to draw me out of my shell?
The Eagle and The Hawk
When I drive into town, I often see bald eagles and hawks. Once, an Eagle flew parallel to my car (30 m.p.h.!) for about 5 minutes. Bliss!
The kid in this video looks like a Mormon missionary in his white shirt and tie. A bit surreal, but I guess a Mormon has to get his "high" from the Colorado Rocky Mountains!

Looking For Space..A Song I'd Never Heard!
This was the first time I'd ever heard this song. It's message is beautiful and still timely. Actually more timely than ever.
John Tries His Hand At Acting
Give the guy credit for trying something new. Thank, God, George Burns was in the movie. (I can hear that voice now..."You're welcome!")

- My favorite one is "Calypso" and I have a story I could tell about that, but it's too long to write here. Maybe I'll put it in a lens eventually.
