Johnny Depp Is An Extremely Versatile, Award-Winning Actor

Are you looking for the best Johnny Depp movies or perhaps even a complete list of his movies? Are you wondering if you missed any of his movies or what else he might have done? On this page you will find the answers to those questions.

I must admit that I am biased. I am a rather large fan of Johnny Depp and I have been ever since I first 'met' him in the movie Chocolat. Chocolat may well still be my favorite of his movies although I must say that I have enjoyed almost every movie that I have seen him in. I love the fact that he is so talented and that he is so versatile and quirky. Some of his quirkiest roles are fan favorites. Dep can take on almost any role, from the serious to the mad cap, and do them all very well.

My personal Johnny Depp movie favorites? In addition to Chocolat I also really enjoyed Finding Neverland, Edward Scissorhands and Pirates of the Caribbean. However, this list of the BEST JOHNNY DEPP MOVIES is not based on my favorites but rather on the Johnny Depp films with the best Amazon customer reviews.

Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean

On blu-ray and DVD.

It probably will not come as a surprise that the amazing Pirates of the Caribbean series numbers amongst the best Johnny Depp movies. Featuring a powerful cast, which includes Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, plenty of action and a very humorous Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, this set is the trilogy and includes the first three movies in the series.

Depp received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor and for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the 2003 movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl as well as a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow is most definitely a horror movie, which is based on the Washington Irving and Disney versions of the story of Sleepy Hollow. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane and employs unusual methods to solve crimes. He investigates several beheadings and becomes a witness to several decapitations. Considered inappropriate for the squeamish, this movie may go on to become an enduring horror film.

Sleepy Hollow is a Johnny Depp movie that I have NOT seen but its place in terms of Amazon customer reviews means it must be on this list. It is an R-rated movie with plenty of 'loppings' as Amazon customer Groucho calls the beheadings. It won an Academy Award for Best Art Direction and was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Cinematogrpahy and Best Costume Design.

Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands

Directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall and Kathy Baker.

Edward Scissorhands is the creation of an inventor who died before completing Edward. Therefore, Edward has some charm but fails to be perfect. As a matter of fact, he has scissors for hands. Edward is taken in by a kind lady and has some rather interesting adventures with living in the suburbs and falling in love.

Edward Scissorhands was Depp's first collaboration with Tim Burton, was considered a box office success and received generally favorable reviews from the critics. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Makeup, a Grammy Award for music and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

Johnny Depp in A Nightmare on Elm Street

Written and directed by Wes Craven; starring Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, John Saxon and Ronee Blakley.

Here's another movie with Johnny Depp that I have not seen. I used to enjoy horror movies but I do not anymore. Am I tempted to see this one because Dep appears in it? Maybe, maybe not

Anyway, the story is that of Freddy Krueger. Freddy is a nut case who hunts the teens of Elm Street. Amazon calls it both terrifying and mind-blowing words which make it pretty scary to me. Depp appears as the boyfriend of Hottie McSmarty who discovers a way to be rid of the fiend although I wonder if he was successful because of the number of movies that followed this one.

A Nightmare on Elm Street won the Critic's Award at the Avoriaz Fantastic Film and won three Academy Award nominations including Best Horror Film, Best Performance by a Young Actor for Jsu Garcia and Best DVD Classic Film Release in 2007.

Johnny Depp in Finding Neverland

Directed by Marc Forster; Starring Julie Christie, Johnny Depp, Ian Hart, Dustin Hoffman and Kate Winslet.

Finding Neverland is a sweet movie, rated PG and deemed appropriate for children in middle school. Johnny Depp appears as the author James M. Barrie who gets to know a widow and her four boys. The resulting friendship helps J.M. Barrie go on to create his most successful story, Peter Pan.

Finding Neverland won and was nominated for many movie awards, which included but was certainly not limited to an Academy Award for Original Music Score and nominations for six others including a nod for Best Actor for Johnny Depp.

Yes, I'm a huge fan! I live in Chicago so was lucky enough to visit the set for Public Enemies on the final scene (but unfortunately I couldn't stay out late enough to meet Johnny, he was filming at about 1am). You did leave out one of my favorite Depp movies though, Ed Wood. That is just a funny, feel good movie! I can't look at Bela Lugosi the same after seeing that. They're all good though, aren't they?

My love affair with Johnny Depp started with "21 Jump Street" so he was mine before he was yours! LOL. But I really like "Sweeney Todd" and the Pirates movies. Hard to pick a favorite.

I really like him as an actor. He's been in far more films than I realized. I may have to check a few of them out.
