Rock Singer John Waite
John Waite's music as truly stood the test of time. Born in England in 1952, the rock musician has had a long and illustrious career. After a stint as lead vocalist for two different popular rock bands, Waite would go on to enjoy a very successful solo career as well.
Early Life and Career
John Charles Waite was born on July 4, 1955, in Lancaster, England. John's musical career would begin in his college years as he played in two different bands during his four years at Lancaster Art College. After a mostly unsuccessful musical run in both the U. K. and the U. S., Waite would settle in London, where, after a chance meeting in an East End London bar, his fortunes in music would soon change forever.

Musical Success
During a night out, Waite met another disillusioned rocker in Mike Corby, and the two went on to form The Babys in 1975. Success for the band would be slow to come, as it took the group 18 months to secure a recording contract with Chrysalis Records. The Babys released five albums between 1976 and 1980. Although mainly overlooked in their homeland of England, the band was quite popular in the U. S., Australia, and Japan. The band's fifth, and final album, On The Edge, was released to limited success in 1980, and later that year, The Babys would break up.
Now free to begin his solo career, Waite spent the next two years writng and recording the album Ignition, which was released in 1982. John's next album, No Brakes, would prove to be Waite's most successful to-date, hitting number one in th U. K., and scoring a number one U. S. single with "Missing You".
Waite released a total of four solo albums between 1982 and 1987, with all four reaching the top 100 in the U. S., and three of the four hitting the U. K. top twenty.

Bad English and Beyond
In 1988, Waite signed a recording contract with Epic Records, and decides to put a hold on his solo career and form a band. John formed Bad English with former Babys Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips (bass), ex-Journey guitarist Neal Schon, and drummer Deen Castronovo. Their self-titled debut album is released in June 1989, and climbs to #21 in the U.S. Bad English would go on to become platinum, and spawn five top-100 singles, including the number one U. S. ballad "When I See You Smile".The bands next album, 1991's Backlash, did not gain anywhere close to the popularity of it's predecessor. By the end of 1991, Bad English was no more. Citing differences in the band's future, the foursome decided to go their separate ways.
Waite spent the next several years traveling and writing music, and would not resuface until 1995's solo album Temple Bar. John has released five more solo albums since, the most recent being 2006's Downtown: Journey of a Heart, which charted at number five in the U. K. The album would include a remake of "Missing You", in which Waite would team with Allison Krauss. The song hit number 34 on the U. S. country charts in 2006.
Today John Waite resides in Santa Monica, California, and still occasionally writes and performs his music. Although many will say that Waite remains largely underrated in his homeland of England, it should be noted that he has amassed a very impressive body of work. Waite has recorded eleven solo albums alone, and that, combined with his work with The Babys and Bad English, makes John Waite's musical work during his long career quite impressive indeed.
