What Is A Forum And Why You Should Join Them
Forums have been around for centuries, not at all what we are used to today. This picture is what's left of a forum that used to exist in ancient Rome. These remains can be found in Pompeii Italy and was probably damaged in the earthquake of 63.A.D. In those days the Forums of Rome were used as gathering place, sometimes for social meetings and other times for political meetings. Unlike today's forums they had certain advantages, like being held in the open air, air that was probably a lot purer that what we are used to today.
Then again they also had certain disadvantages in that if you weren't all that popular there was every chance that someone would stab you in the back. Sort of brings to mind that fateful day when Caesar whilst at a Senate meeting was stabbed 23 times by 60 conspirators led by Marcus Junius Brutus, causing him to utter that now famous phrase "Et tu, Brute?", at least that's what Shakespeare would want us to believe. And to think one or two stabs would have been enough.
Anyway, today's modern forums have one major difference, that is that it can be held online, and while you can be subject to 'flaming' at least you won't have to worry about a dagger in the back. Where once it was fairly local involving only a small community now it's quite global involving many countries around the world. Whilst the first online forums came about during the days of the bulletin boards they didn't have the same reach as today's Internet Forum.
The reasons people join forums are varied and as there are forums that cover a wide range of subjects the reason may depend on what the forum is about.. Usually people join a particular forum because they are seeking information and if they can't find the answer they are looking for they post their problem in the hope that one of the members may be able to help solve their problem.
There are some people who become members for an entirely different reason, for the sole purpose of marketing their site or blog. Of these there are two kinds, the good marketers and the bad ones. The good ones will drive targeted traffic to their sites and the bad ones remain unnoticed. So, how to be a good marketer?
Work out who your market is and join a forum related to that market. If you're selling electronics you would join a forum based on electronics etc.
Once a member you need to fill out your profile. One important aspect of your profile is the signature as the signature will contain the link to your site, so every time you leave a comment your link bearing signature will be attached to that comment.
Look for topics that you know you can provide constructive help as this will build you're reputation and will more likely lead people to your site
Do not leave silly short comments, remember the bad marketer, as these will go unnoticed and could possibly lead to loss of membership!
Definitely do not leave comments that intentionally link to your site, especially if it's unrelated and this will definitely get your ass kicked out!

A Forum Dedicated To Bloggers
- Where Bloggers Meet
- This relatively new forum is currently looking for members. Where Bloggers Meet (WBM) is built around bloggers, both those that are just starting out and those that have been blogging for awhile. Some of the topics covered include;
- Building Content: This is where members share ideas on how they build the content on their blog, a very important topic when you consider that all blogs need good content to survive.
- Favorite Blogging Platforms: There are many blogging platforms and concentrating on one would leave many bloggers out in the cold. This topic allows member to talk about what their favorite platform is and why that is so. May help others to decide as to what platform they should be using.
There are many other interesting topics, and the owner is even open to suggestions for new ones.
The Blog Co-Op
- The Internet Marketing Guild
- The forum is centered around a Blog Co-Op that is all about site promotion and how to get quality backlinks to your site. But that's only a small part of the Co-Op.
"The Blog Co-Op is designed to provide you and others with a place to not only post your work, but easily look for sites in your niche right in that category. So post your latest work, then comment on a few blogs right from one spot."
You will also find topics discussing marketing, social networking and business opportunities.
Affiliate Marketing
- Tissa Godavitarne's ACME People Search & GDI Support Forum
- Although this is basically a support forum involving Tissa's scheme for generating a good online income, I've found a lot of good posts that are targeted around getting targeted traffic, improving your conversion rate, free advertising techniques as well as many other helpful topics.
A Forum Dedicated To Stocks And Markets
- Top $tocks
- Although based in Australia this forum covers the world market. While it's the most complex forum I am a member of, as in it takes some time to get used to navigating the board, it is also the most comprehensive. See what other members are doing in the market and why. Watching how others are playing the market may teach you how to make better decisions as to when you should buy or sell your shares.
Digital Photography Forum
- ePHOTOzine
- A forum dedicated to digital photography: This would be great for those who have a photo blog! Covers a huge range of topics including film cameras so don't feel left out if you still have not upgraded to digital. A very popular forum which will increase your exposure. Just remember to maintain a proper forum etiquette.
The Warrior Forum
- The Warrior Forum
- - A busy Internet marketing forum, whilst free to join it does have a paid section which they call The War Room. This is a private membership club where some bloke called Allen Says "divulges his marketing secrets and techniques."
To read more of what the War Room has to offer all you need do is follow this LINK
Why Do Work.com
Whydowork.com is a forum dedicated to people wanting to earn a living online. Membership is free and you are allowed to have a link ion your signature as long as it doesn't link to an affiliate or any site that is considered to be objectionable. Discussions in the forum range from starting an online business to being wary of scam reports.
I've found the forum members to be most friendly and willing to help all who take the time to ask
