Joining the new rich

A review of Timothy Ferriss' bestseller, The 4 Hour Work Week. This book has been a bestseller and I will tell you why in this lens. Ferriss, brings clarity to an issue we have all pondered. How can you work less and achieve more.

Join the New Rich

The four work week

This summer I purchased a book on a whim. It is titled the 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss. In his book Timothy outlines how we went from a regular 9 to 5 job in a cubicle to making thousands a week from automated income, working 4 hours a week.

This well written bestseller is an easy read that is full of ideas that will really make you think about your current employment situation. Ferriss outlines certain steps that are required to join what he has phrased the New Rich. A group of people who consider their time as valuable as their income and vice versa. The New Rich, have automated incomes from e-commerce, travel off season, outsource as much of their lives as possible with virtual assistants and are liberated from the traps of the office cubicle.

The steps that are outlined are defining what would be necessary for you to live the life of your dreams, financially and mentally. The second step is eliminating tasks that you do not really need to do yourself as well as eliminating the information overload we are often inflicted with these days. Thirdly, he outlines ways to gain an automated stream of income from internet based enterprises. Lastly, there is a comprehensive description on how to liberate yourself from the hum drum of life and take mini retirements instead of one week blitz vacations that leave you more tired than before you left.

Ferriss' book has a very business world focus and as a teacher some of what the author speaks of is difficult to apply. However, it got me really thinking of the quality of life I live, how much time I spend away from my family, and the mundane tasks I do but don't really need to. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, regardless of profession. At the very least it will make you assess your lifestyle and at the most it will help you become a successful entrepreneur with the ability to maximize your time and join the new rich.

I really like your honest review. I could really get into a four-hour work week, if it included a very nice income. I guess I should read the book!

I agree that there are better ways to earn an income other than working/making money for someone else. Wouldn't you rather make money for yourself?
