So Why Give Your Dogs Joint Supplements

Dogs just like humans are prone to suffering from severe conditions that affect their joints. The most common and severe of these is arthritis. Arthritis in dogs is extremely common, around 12 million dogs suffer from the condition in the U.S alone.

Joint supplements for dogs and humans alike have proven extremely effective at treating and preventing arthritis and other conditions effecting the joints.

So in this article below we will outline what you should look for in a dog joint supplement, and suggest one that is currently being used by vets across the world to treat canine joints.

What Do the Most Effective Joint Supplements For Dogs Contain

Joint Supplements For Dogs

There are a wide variety of joint supplements that you can buy in shops or the internet with a variety of weird and wacky ingredients all putting their case forward of why they are going to treat your dogs joints. That is why I have compiled this list of the naturally occuring substances below that have been clinically proven to treat and prevent arthritis in dogs and humans.

Glucosamine - Glucosamine is oftenly used in dogs and humans in the treatment of Osteoarthritis. This is because glucosamine is one of the building blocks used in the formulation of cartilage. Arthritis is caused by a wearing down and thinning of the cartilage in a joint, so the majority of reputable joint supplements for dogs contain glucosamine.

Chondroitin - Chondroitin or Chondroitin Sulphate as it is sometimes known is also a naturally occuring part of joint cartilage. It's function within a joint is to stop the cartilage being compressed. Because of its function a large proportion of cartilage is made up of this stuff. As a result of that a loss of chondroitin from cartilage is one of the major causes of osteoarthritis.

Cetyl Myristoleate - Cetyl Myristoleate is a relatively new discovery. It was discovered by a chemist working at the National Institutes of Health in the 1960's, after studying the visible immunity of mice to arthritis. This naturally occuring substance has a number of functions including acting as a pain reliever, having anti-inflammatory properties and also being a regulator of the immune system.

A Video Of A Vet Talking About Dog Joints And A Supplement He Uses

Joint Supplements For Dogs

This video is of David Randal, a vet talking about a supplement called Flexpet that he gives to his clients dogs for their joints.

The vet talks about the main reasons why dogs tend to have joint problems and talks about what you should be doing to try and avoid arthritis and serious problems in your dogs joints.

Why I Give My 6 Year Old Labrador With Arthritis Flexpet

Joint Supplements For Dog's

I first learnt about Flexpet, through a dog owners forum after looking for information on arthritis treatments for dog's. What caught my interest was the fact that the company who make Flexpet have a similar supplement that treats humans with arthritis. These supplements have proven to be very effective at treating and preventing arthritis, and are stocked nationwide in shops across the U.S.

Also the main ingredients of Flexpet are the 3 substances above glucosamine, chondrotin, and it is the only arthritis supplement on the market to contain Cetyl Myristoleate.

One downside of giving your dog any supplement can be that supplement's are not designed specifically to treat pain, but they will do indirectly because they help to regenerate the joint tissue. But this does mean that if your dog is in pain, it will not be dealt with straight away with a supplement.

This is why I got a months supply of Dog Aspirin, from Amazon, to help relieve the pain while I was waiting for the effect's of the supplement to kick in.

So if your dog is in intense pain, I would advise you to combine a supplement with a pain killer, while you are waiting for the effects of the supplement to kick in.

I have compiled a blog and website about getting joint supplements for dogs for cheap from places like Amazon, and also expanded on how to get a free months trial of Flexpet for your dogs.
