Quick Introduction About the Philippines, Jollibee, and Employment Abroad

This lens will first cover Jollibee and will then discuss  my ethnic background, culture and history of the Philippines. Below are some top daily news about the Philippines.

In addition to Jollibee, I will also cover some Filipino cultural dances which will include a short description and then a video from You Tube.  Before this discussion, I also posted internet articles for those who are interested in promoting their business service or product.

Since I used to work at McDonald's many moons ago, I like to mention the McDonald's of the Philippines, Jollibee.  If fact,  Jollibee restaurants can be found in the United States.   Jollibee Food Corporation has a principal activity to develop, operate and franchise fast food stores under the trade name Jollibee. Jollibee also operate fast food stores under the Chowking and Greenwich brands and a bakeshop under the Red Ribbon brands. The corporation has other activities including manufacturing and property leasing in support of the QSR systems. There are over 566 Jollibee stores in the Philippines. There are also 26 Jollibee stores operating overseas. The Group's product are Super Meal, Jolly Chezzy Fries, Creamy Macaroni Soup, Yumburger Doubles, Jolly Zerts, Fish Fillet, Fresh Green Salad, Chicken Torpedo, Jolly Beef Rice, Burger Steak Bistek Pinoy Style and Jolly Chicken Tocino. The Jollibee Group has store operations in the Philippines, the United States of America, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Brunei, Guam and the territory of Saipan.

Also, I'm starting to write article about the Philippine History. Please visit my website often at Freedom University as I will start to write some articles on Jose Rizal

Brief History of Jollibee

Originally opened as a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor at Cubao in 1975, the name was originally called Jolibe. In 1978, the business focus shifted from ice cream to hamburgers. Jollibee studies showed a much larger market was waiting to get tapped. Lumba became Tony Tan's first business and management mentor. After changing the name to Jollibee, the Jollibee mascot was nspired by local and foreign children's books. Developed by a management consultant named, Manuel C. Lumba working for Tony Tan Caktiong next created the product name "Yumburger" as well as the name "Chickenjoy". Later Tony Tony made Manny Lumpa in charge of developing the franchise. The stores were re-designed, the service transformed into a full self-service, fast food operation with drive thrus. The first headquarters was located on Main St. in Cubao, Quezon City. Lumba developed a long-term marketing strategy, listing up a number of consumer promotions and traffic building schemes while maintaining internal strengths required by Tony Tan.

Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company - Pandanggo at Oasioas

The late Ms. Lucretia Urtula combined two popular dances, pandanggo sa ilaw and oasioas. Pandanggo Sa Ilaw: From the province of Mindoro, dancers reveal their virtuosity and grace by balancing three lighted oil lamps on their heads and on the backs of their hands as they execute waltz-like steps. Oasioas: Oasioas means 'to swing' in the Pangasinan dialect, it carries the same tempo and musical theme as pandanggo sa ilaw.

Filipino Cultural Dances

Sikhil

A Muslim dance originating from Mindanao having a rythmic clapping of bamboo poles. In this folk dance, the dancers weave expertly through crisscrossed bamboos and the ladies are dressed in elegant Muslim costumes waving great big fans while the men are flipping brightly colored handkerchiefs right and left. The solemn dancers wearing maintain a dignified pose, dancing at first as a slow pace that soon progresses to a faster tempo.
According to legend, SINGKIL originated from the day the diwatas (some from of nymph or fairy) played a joke on Princess Gandingan taking a walk in the woods. Despite diwatas which caused an eathquake that made the trees tremble and the rocks to roll and knock against each other, Princess Gandingan skipped nimbly from place to place and no tree or rock ever touched her tiny feet. Again, there are many versions of SINGKIL. When performed by ladies of Lanao, the dancer is usually accompanied by a waiting lady holding a beautifully decorated umbrella over the Princess' head wherever she goes.
Since the dance has no definite number of steps or figures, even the arm movements are improvised and executed according to the mood and skill of the dancers.

Filipino Cultural Dances

Habanera de Jovencita

The next dance is called Habanera de Jovencita. Having a Spanish influence and originating from the town of Botalan in Zambales, this wedding folk dance is graceful and beautiful habanera dance usually performed at a women's debut or wedding. The word Jovencita means "young lady" in Spanish. Typical sequences include the procession of the bride and groom's parents, lineup of the bridesmaids and groomsmen upstage, and a solo featuring the wedding couple.
