Mr. Jonathan Cain ~ Musical Inspiration

Have you ever had someone you admire so deeply that it inspires you to pursue your dreams - especially when you are frustrated or discouraged at those dreams? Someone who you can hear not only in your mind, but in your heart - even though you have never even met the person? I know many people have heros and role models who have made a difference in their lives. Mr. Cain and the other gentlemen in the band "Journey" have inspired me as well as many other musicians, and helped keep me going in my pursuit of excellent music. I will never be the musician he is, but am so motivated to keep working at it when I listen to him. Especially after attending concerts, I get such a kick to practice harder! This page is just a small way of showing my deep respect and to say thank you to him, and to his wife and children who graciously allow him to share his talents. :)

The picture is from a Journey concert September 10, 2009 in Reading, PA.

Jonathan Cain (born Jonathan Leonard Friga, February 26, 1950, Chicago, Illinois) is an American musician, most known for his keyboards and songwriting roles in the rock band, Journey.

Journey is an American rock band formed in 1973 in San Francisco, California with former members of Santana. The band has gone through several phases, but its strongest commercial success came in the late 1970s to the early 1980s. During this period, they had hits with a series of power ballads and rock songs, including "Don't Stop Believin'", "Separate Ways", "Faithfully", "Any Way You Want It", "Open Arms", "Send Her My Love", "Wheel in the Sky", "Who's Crying Now", "Stone In Love", "Lovin,' Touchin,' Squeezin;'", and "Lights". The group enjoyed a successful reunion in the mid-1990s with a major Grammy-nominated hit, "When You Love a Woman." Throughout Journey's three decades of existence, their albums have achieved gold status twice, platinum status three times, multi-platinum plateau eight times, and Diamond once. These include seven consecutive multi-platinum albums, stretching from 1978 to 1987. They had 18 Top 40 singles, six of which reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their signature song, "Don't Stop Believin'", is the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history, at more than two million downloads.search results

Charities that are Special to Me

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
"Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that: clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond."

Someone I love very much was born with CF and has been fighting it his whole life - click the website to find out more or to donate.

From "Jonathan Cain Live on America On-Line " (look at the top of the page for the link):
"Question: "What's your fondest memory of all your years with Journey?"
CainLive: Actually it was Kenny Skyluk, who called us through Make a Wish Foundation. Kenny had cystic fibrosis, and was very sick in 1985. His wish was to meet the members of Journey, so they called us, and we flew to be at his bedside. We gave him a platinum album, a 49ers football and helmet, a walkman, and a copy of our latest single, "Only the Young." He was very impressed that we had answered his wish - seemed very happy that we would come all the way to Cleveland to visit a sick little boy. Kenny Skyluk died the next day, but his courage and strength will be in my heart forever."

Thank you, Mr. Cain - I admire your gift of compassion even more than all the inspirational music.
Global Aid Network (GAIN)
The same person I mentioned above is active in GAIN when his health allows. Although he has gone through so many difficult situations, he praises God for the miracles worked in him. ~ I truly mean 'miracles' that he has experienced. He would never be able to do what he does without God pulling him through health conditions that doctors have labelled impossible. ~ He has travelled on many mission trips and participated in GAIN warehouse collections and packing. Many people have come to know the Word of God and been given basic needs because of him. His braveness and determination against the odds are nothing less than amazing!

"Global Aid Network is a multi-national network of ministries serving to demonstrate the love of God, through word and deed, to hurting and needy people around the world through relief and development projects. As the humanitarian aid arm of Campus Crusade for Christ International, the ministry of Global Aid Network spans the globe helping to meet physical needs in areas of poverty and despair and providing hope through evangelistic outreach. Global Aid Network partners with existing Campus Crusade for Christ ministries, local churches, missionaries, and other agencies to help distribute compassionate aid to impoverished countries around the world.

Originally started in 1991 as a humanitarian project to the former Soviet Union, Global Aid Network is now overseeing projects in more than 30 countries having distributed greater than $125 million worth of aid and mobilized more than 10,000 short-term mission participants to foreign lands."

The ministry focuses on the following: Working with Leaders and Decision Makers, Humanitarian Aid, Emergency Disaster Response and Ongoing Relief, Developmental Aid, Medical and Vision Teams, Short-term Mission Teams

"Global Aid Network is a ministry of compassion, with a heart towards providing tangible help toward meeting physical needs of people as well as spiritual hope so they may know the love of our Savior. Please join us in compassionate outreach in this variety of ways. The life that is changed may be your own."
