Free Audiobooks
From the Authors to You
For free audiobooks online, you can't beat Podiobooks.Com. I admit, I'm a bit biased here, as I'm a Podiobooks author. In fact, I hope that everyone who reads this lens will head over and subscribe to my audio novel, Children of Rhatlan!Podiobooks has attracted some fantastic authors, such as the original podcast novelist, Scott Sigler; Mur Lafferty, with her ery popular Heaven series; Timothy Callhan, who just won a Parsec award for his podiobook, The Arwen; and Tracy Hickman, New Your Times best selling author, and co-author of the popular Dragonlance novels.
The Podiobook concept is simple. The author produces the mp3 files of his or her book. (Most of the authors read the book themselves.) They post usually a chapter or two a week, until the book is finished. (Authors at Podiobooks agree to finish the entire book in audio format for the site.) Listeners can subscribe to any of the books for free. Donations are encouraged, but totally optional.
Here's one note about the donations, though. Authors get 75% of the money for each donation made to one of their works. If you donated $10 to my fantasy novel, Children of Rhatlan, then, I would receive a full $7.50 of that. That's more than I get for selling a print copy, and it would cost you less money! Podiobooks gets the other 25%, which goes to keeping the site running and providing you with all this great listening material.
Whatever genre of fiction you enjoy, chances are, you'll find it at Podiobooks.Com. Subscribe to an audiobook, and enjoy!
If I see a big increase in Children of Rhatlan, or some nice donations coming in, I'll gladly record another of my novels for Podiobooks!
(The cover art for Children of Rhatlan is by the incomparable Stephanie Law.)
