Small town Americana at its finest!

Small town Americana at its finest!

We came to this quaint small Minnesotan town, after living on the fringes of Downtown St. Paul, our capital city. It was an interesting experience adapting to city life, after living in the suburbs all my life and I'm glad I had the opportunity to say that I tried it.

Our journey for a creative space landed us in the car, driving around the beautiful State of Minnesota. Sometimes we feel like Oliver and Lisa Douglas of Green Acres fame...keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.

We now find ourselves in a 1865 Jordan Brick building in beautiful downtown Jordan, Minnesota. Just far enough away, but close enough to visit.

There is an amazing cast of characters, in this small town and we are blessed that we were welcomed with open arms.

We hope you enjoy learning more about our little jewel.

Small Town America

Hometown hospitality.

Jordan, Minnesota is a hidden jewel, in Scott County, and only 20 miles southwest of the Twin Cities. Jordan is a small town, steeped in history, but steadily growing toward a thriving future!

In historic downtown, you'll find antique shops, family restaurants, famous Pekarna Meats, beautiful floral, creative centers and gift shops, the Mini Met baseball facility, the Nicolin Mansion Bed and Breakfast all within a city block.

As many as 15 of the buildings on Water Street and South Broadway are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Don't forget to visit the waterfall at Lagoon Park.

The Place Where We Live

Every morning I walk down the stairs from my apartment above 225 Water Street Creative Arts located in Jordan, Minnesota. I'm not the first to experience this as the building has always been home to the proprietors that have set up shop here.

We're newcomers to this small town and one thing is for sure...it's true what they say about small-towns! Don't know what they say? You won't find me telling you:)

When we arrived in Jordan, we were greeted by Terri & Kevin Knox, the owners of the Nicolin Mansion Bed & Breakfast. Such lovely people and what an unbelievable home they've created...you should check it out!

Terri asked if we would help her finish creating a Historic Walking Tour of Jordan and we were delighted to collaborate with her.

Collectively, we researched and gathered all of the historical data we could find about the 15+ historic buildings in this amazing town and designed a layout to fit the vision. Six months later we published the piece.

Jordan...a hidden treasure

"The Minnesota River town of Jordan is a hidden treasure on par with Stillwater,
although it feels more like a hometown."

Scott County

A Southern Minnesotan Jewel

Scott County is a mixed rural/suburban county in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The county consists of the cities of Belle Plaine, Jordan, Elko New Market, New Prague, Prior Lake, Savage and Shakopee and Belle Plaine, Blakeley, Cedar Lake, Credit River, Helena, Jackson, Louisville, New Market, St. Lawrence, Sand Creek, and Spring Lake townships. Scott County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Minnesota, having increased from 55% since 1990. Scott County is 365 square miles and is bounded on the west and north by the Minnesota River. The Minnesota River had supported the county's fur trading, lumbering, and farming industries in the 1800's. Today Scott County enjoys a growing mix of commercial, industrial, and housing development, yet maintains a rural flavor. Scott County is the home to several historical, scenic, and entertainment destinations including Canterbury Park, Murphy's Landing, Elko Speedway, Mystic Lake Casino, the Renaissance Festival, and ValleyFair Amusement Park ... something for everyone!

'Sven replies, 'Yes, they are very beautiful. And look at the price!' Ole says, with wide eyes, 'Wow, they aren't very expensive. At this price, I'm buying one.
