Who am I? A Brief History Into The Origins of My Name.

Good Question! People have been trying to figure that out for decades now. But, I am really not all the complicated to figure out.

My name is Joseph Goodrum, but everyone calls me Bobby!?? Bobby?? Where does that come from. Alright, it is not that weird... my middle name is Robert. I was named after my grandfather on my dad's side, so that is why they didn't just name me Robert, or Bobby.

I probably did not need to explain that, but it seems that this is very confusing to most people I meet, so there you have it. A brief history of the origins of my name, and nickname.

Where I Have Been, Where I Am, And Where I Am Going

A Story About Me :)

I am 26 years old, born October 2, 1982, in Louisville, KY. I lived there for 17 years before I shipped out and joined the Marine Corps, but I will go into more details about that later.

Growing up in Kentucky was okay. I kept to myself mostly. I read a lot, listened to music, and worked a lot. My first job was as a porter for a small Bakery. I kept that job for the four years as I cruised through High School.

I maintained a 4.0 GPA my entire High School career, and I could have gone to any college I wanted to...provided I could afford it. But, instead I decided to do something completely different and join the Marine Corps!:)

I Know...What Was I Thinking?

Well, this was my thought process. I figured it would be a nice change from going to school, and it had been about eight years since our last major military conflict in the Gulf in '91, so I figured it would be safe to say we were not due for anything soon. :) Boy, was I mistaken! But, I at least had the foresight to think that just in case anything did happen, I wanted to be with the toughest, meanest, best fighting force America had to offer.

I went through Boot Camp in Pariis Island, SC in the fall of 2000, and made it to my final duty station in beautiful Hawaii in early 2001. But, it was only a few months after getting stationed at Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), the twin towers in New York went down!

So, I ended up doing two tours in Iraq. I was in the initial invasion in March 2003 attached to the 15th MEU. And I went back again in 2004! But, despite all that the military was the best thing that ever happened to me.

I gave my life to Christ in September of 2004 in Al Asad, Iraq, I met my wife (Angela) in the military, and I now live in Hawaii! God is good! We have been married for almost four years now and God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters. Gavriella, born 05/11/07, and Anaielle, born 09/26/08.
