Hi, I'm Josh, a digital coach, and I can help!
.jpg)
A Digital Coach helps people of all skill levels do what they want and need to do with technology. Digital Coaches are patient and helpful, they get more enjoyment out of helping people than they do from the paycheck at the end of the day. Digital Coaches don't hide solutions, they find them and share them; a Digital Coach is likely to write an article or helpful guide and share it with people. Digital Coaches know about mobile phones, laptops, networks, web design, typography... everything needed to create a great web presence or help someone launch a small personal business.
I love working with technology and showing others how to do the same. When others get stumped or frustrated, I'm just getting started. I'll show you how to use you computer in unexpected ways and organization techniques that will change the way you think and work.
Check out my list of services below and a mock interview between me and my prospective employer after that. Then comes a list of skills that you can rate as the most or least important. Finally, I finish off with a list of links and a guestbook for you to sign.
Get a hold of me... I can help :)
So what can Josh help with?
I can help you figure out the web or your computer or your phone. Technology can be frustrating but it also can be one of your most important tools. Wouldn't you like to be able to use it to your advantage instead of it using YOU?
I can how you the basics on popular programs and how to get the most of them. I did corporate training for a few years and, you know what, I was pretty darn good at it! I'm patient and I'll make the whole process more fun than you thought!
Build a simple website and get your name out there for whomever you are or whatever you're selling. I'm a self-taught HTML/CSS writer with a solid sense of design and color. I'm a low-cost option to big-time web design firms. If you're a bootstrapper or a family business or just want something simple and effective, I'm your guy!
I can show you how to organize, backup, and protect your computer. Backing things up is UNDER-RATED. You wouldn't opt-out of airbags in a new car and you shouldn't pretend like you don't need to back your data up. I'll show you a really easy system and you can stop stress out about one less thing.
I can show you a few programs you may have never used before and will wonder how you ever got along without. You would be AMAZED by what is offered for free out there! Trust me, you're missing out!
I can show you how to start a blog and possibly even get some attention. There are a million reasons to start a blog... mine is for my own thing but I can show you what people are doing and you may want to join that crowd. There is never any guarantee for blog success but there are things you can do to at least make sure your words are getting out there.
I can help you edit photos, put together a video compilation, or use your digital camera. I'm no photographer, that's for sure, but I'll help you get more out of what you have already. Photo and video editing, at the basic level, is pretty simple. You won't be recreating Star Wars but you might be pretty surprised to see what you can do with some good footage and some free software.
I'll tell you all about digital music and show you how to get the most of it. Tell your WAVs from your MP3s from your WMAs... and stay away from that silly DRM! Lost already? Email me!
I'll show you the best way and place to buy new hardware for your home or office. Want to speed things up? Need a whole new system? Want to set up a son or daughter for college? I'll translate the ads and find you some great new toys in the process. My good friend in Washington can get you a SCREAMING fast computer for much less than you though!
Probably a whole lot more than that...
**I should probably mention that I'm pretty much a Windows/PC guy. Computer skills are computer skills so I'm able to help with most Macintosh issues but there are a few things that might stump me. If it takes longer than usual, I'll charge you less and if I just can't do it, I won't charge you at all.**

Here's why...
What makes you qualified for this freelance position?
First off, please see my resume and read about my professional experience. On top of the official stuff, I've been a computer hobbyist for over a decade and love playing around with technology. I've always built my own desktop systems and recently upgraded an old (cheap) laptop to do everything I need. I'm tech support for everyone I know and love, solving problems of all types. I'm patient, I love to teach, I'm very resourceful, and I clean up well if you need me to do work at your office. Hey, I've been in a corporate environment for years, I know the score! In the meantime, I'm doing documentation and web design for family and friends to prove that I've got the goods.
Can I see some examples of your work, web or otherwise?
I'm working on a couple web projects right now (my first, actually) which should be live soon. I can provide documents I've worked on in the past and have examples of some digital work I've done (available upon request). I'm not Photoshop guru (I don't use it much, I use free programs that are easier to use) and I can't draw for the life of me but I have a strong sense of design and geenral aesthetics. I've designed logos, altered digital photos, written technical education documents, and a few web pages. I'll be up-front with what I can do and can't do; in short, you're not going to pay me for work I don't do, plain and simple.
You sure seem like a nice guy...
Why thank you! Would it be awkward if I said that I thought this interview was going pretty good so far?
Not at all! Now, tell me what to expect if I contact you
First, I'll ask a little bit about you and what you want to accomplish. If you don't know right away, no big deal, we'll figure it out together! Maybe you have a business idea you want to talk about or a website you've been thinking about or a marketing document you want to create. Over the phone or email, I'll give you an idea of what I can help you with and what to expect, cost-wise (I come relatively cheap for the time being).
If you're excited and motivated, we'll meet up in person if you are in the area or schedule an "official phone call." I'll tell you how long I think it will take and we can figure out if that will work for you. I'll give you a realistic (and workable) deadline, we'll agree on an estimate and I'll get it all done for you, with or without instruction. You'll be impressed, you'll call me back with more work soon, and you'll tell all of your friends. I'll have a solid customer base of people who rely on me and love my work and everyone will be better off for it!
You know, I have a lot of options in terms of assistance... Geek Squad, my son-in-law, Craigslist. Why should I choose you?
I'm straight-forward, I'll get the work done, and you'll like me so much, you'll never ask this question again! I'm a patient teacher, I have broad experience, and I'm reasonably priced, to be sure. I have no product to sell besides my own services and no motivation besides helping you. I've taught customer service skills, worked with a HUGE range of different people, and always remained honest and hard-working. I don't have one person I've ever worked with or for that would not recommend me (well, besides Bernie's Bagels when I was 17). In fact, if you want recommendations, I can get a million of them... just ask!
You sound like just what I'm looking for!
Precisely!
