Welcome to Joshua Tree

Created a national park only thirteen years ago, this pristine wilderness has been a US National Monument since 1936. Home to loads of flora and fauna, the park derives its name from the tree-like Joshua Tree plants that load the landscape.

Joshua Tree National Park is located in southeastern California. Declared a U.S. National Park in 1994 when the US Congress passed the California Desert Protection Act (Public Law 103-433), it had previously been a U.S. National Monument since 1936. It includes over 1,234 mi² (3,196 km²) of land. A large part of the park is designated to wilderness area; some 914 mi² (2,367 km²). Straddling the San Bernardino County/Riverside County border, the park includes parts of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation. Below 3,000 feet (900 m), the Colorado Desert encompasses the eastern part of the park and features natural gardens of creosote bush, ocotillo, and cholla cactus. The Little San Bernardino Mountains run through the southwest edge of the park.

Sounds like a lot of people like this park. I've never been to the west coast. I'm on the (better, although colder) east coast.

I have been to Joshua Tree 8 times since 2004(2 weeks at a time on rock climbing trips) and am going again in a month - can't wait! It's my climbing Crag Away from Crag!

Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places... I used to live in 29 palms, worked as a reporter, and I still visit once or twice a year... They are building a new casino now... go out to Landers from Yucca Valley on Old Woman's Road/Trail and feast your eyes on the trees... once, I saw a coyote in the middle of the road who just stood his ground...

Great photographs. Joshua Tree is a cool place to go hiking in the Spring. I would definitely recommend it as a weekend getaway in Southern California.

I absolutely love Joshua Tree National Park, we try to get there every spring. It's such a beautiful place, especially when the spring flowers are blooming! Don't forget the camera for amazing pictures.
