When You Capture Your Thoughts, You Need More Than Just a Napkin or Some Scrap-Paper!

Perhaps like you, thoughts occur to me all the time. The problem is that many times before recently I've not had a pen or pencil and pad handy to catch that thought.

I've always been an avid reader. I like reading other folks' writing. But I also like to recapture some of my own memories and reading the writing later.

So, a few years ago, I invested in a blank book. It was sort of pricey.... but it was beautiful.

The paper on the inside was high quality--it gave a nice feel to the pen when I wrote on it. The book was bound in leather and had a string-tie to keep it closed when not open.  The leather gave off an enticing aroma and also provided a solid and substantial feel to the book.

I began writing snippets of ideas in the book every day. I carted it around with me--in my computer case, along with my Bible on the way to church, on the train and plane in my carry-on luggage--that thing went everywhere with me. I've since filled it up and have started many others.

The books, when full, sit on my bookcase along with the writings of my favorite authors.

I now like to collect journals--to see how quickly or thoroughly I can fill them up with ideas.  Some of them have become an ongoing story--maybe eventually I'll get them transcribed into a computer and get them published. Some are the seeds for novels.  My research and ideas interesting things I see go into these books... they are later used later as "reference material".

This Squidoo lens is provided to you to show you what variety and options are out there.

Join me in capturing ideas. Your ideas are uniquely yours.  It would be a shame for them to get away without capturing them.

About EditorDave

Living on Guam is what now "defines" me.  It was such a dramatic difference in my life and outlook on things that there's no way I'd be the same if I had remained in New Mexico or any of the rest of the U.S. Mainland.   One of the classes I took at the University of Guam was "Scientific and Technical Writing and Editing"... I did not realize at the time that this class would be setting the foundation for the rest of my working life.  I found that I *love* words and fooling around with making them work as best as possible.  I also took classes in formal linguistics at the University of Guam--and took classes in Japanese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese. These classes helped me to become comfortable with working with translations of technical material into English from other languages.  I can help folks with making their words work for the particular audience they are writing for.
