Journal writers are always searching for topics for their notebooks. I have been an avid journal writer for years and have set up this site to share some journal writing topics with you.
Browse the list and pick a topic that interests you or seems like fun. Start writing and see where your writing takes you. All of these journal writing topics are meant to give you insight into yourself.

Dreams
If you haven't been writing your dreams down and decoding them you need to start. This is a fascinating way to get insight into your subconscious. Most people will write down their dreams, but not take the time to analyze. That is the fun part. You can easily find dream dictionaries on the Web or in bookstores."

Quotes
Write down interesting quotes or lines from books, magazines, and songs and explore them in your journal. Pick quotes that resonate with you and find out why they have such a powerful effect. A good way to start is to ask yourself questions, such as:
What does this quote remind me of?
How does this quote make me feel?
Do I agree or disagree with this quote? Why?
What does this quote remind me of?
How does this quote make me feel?
Do I agree or disagree with this quote? Why?
Emotions
Your emotions are great journal writing topics. Usually, you will journal about strong emotions. Most find this a great way to vent. However, after venting try going deeper and explore the emotions you have experienced. What did it feel like physically and emotionally to experience these emotions? What other situations in your life have caused these same reactions? How do you feel after experiencing these emotions?
Objects
When you can't seem to find a journal topic then free write. Pick an object in your room and dedicate 10 minutes to writing about anything that pops into your mine about that object. Don't stop writing during the entire 10 minutes. Also, don't censor yourself. If you can't think of anything to write then write, "I don't know what to write."
Your Day
Your life is not boring. Write about your day. Write about that great book you just started reading. Write about that delicious chocolate chip cookie you had as a snack. Write about the sun shining, snow falling, thunderstorms. Don't avoid journaling about your everyday experiences. Often while writing about your day you will find simple, joyful moments that (almost) passed you by.
People
Pick a person in your life and write about that person. Describe this person. What does this person look like? What kind of personality does this person have? What is your relationship? What issues do you have with this person? What trait do they have that you wish you possessed? What have you learned from your relationship with this person? What do you think this person has learned from you?
Spirituality and Religion
Your beliefs are a great journal topic. Why do you believe what you do? Do you have childhood memories surrounding these beliefs? How have your beliefs changed? Have your beliefs changed? How do your beliefs enrich your life?
Goals
Write your goals down in your journal. Also, write down how plan to reach your goals; what you are doing to reach your goals; and what you need to do to reach your goals. Another fun thing to do is to imagine you have reached your goals and write about how it feels.
Express Gratitude
Write down on the things in your life that you are grateful for and/or love. Don't limit yourself to just big things. Write down all things no matter how small. If you are grateful for the great paint color you found at the store - write it down. If you love the way your feet look - write it down. This journal topic will always leave you feeling energized and happy.
Health and Fitness
Keep track of how you feel, your sleep patterns, your energy levels, your food intake, your medication, your moods, and anything else related to your physical and mental health. This is a great way to notice connections between your health and your everyday routines.
