What is a quality custom saddle?

Quality materials and workmanship

The first thing in a quality custom saddle is to start with the best materials. The hardware, leather and the saddle tree need to be superior. If any of these components are poor products the saddle with show it over time and with use. Next, the workmanship and the ability of the craftsman come into play. Having nice clean lines, the fit of each component throughout the building process and overall eye appeal with define the finished product. This is just a start, I will go into more details as we go along. I am new to this lens thing so join me on this journey. Hopefully we can all learn something.

The Foundation

Saddle Trees and Leather

Before the building process begins you must start with the materials. The saddle tree is the foundation that is built upon for the end result. High quality custom saddles demand high quality custom saddle trees. This insures proper saddle fit to the horse and specs requested by the customer. Not only does the tree need to be of the highest quality so does the leather and hardware. The leather you choose for each component in the saddle has great bearing on it's ability to hold a stamp job and wear well through many years of service. Next I will discuss a little more of the building process.
