An Apple a Day
I am not an expert in the field of detox. Healthy diet - juicing in particular, has become a passion of mine because it works and it's easy. As a plus, anything that helps us get off or stay off meds is worth talking about.
What Is Juice Fasting?
Americans eat way too much fat, way too much sugar, and way too much protein. Simply put, Americans eat too much of everything. The way out of this dilemma is easy: consider occasionally fasting.Juice fasting is a method of detoxification via diet in which the practitioner consumes only fruit and vegetable juices. It involves the short-term intake of raw vegetable and fruit juice and water only.In a juice fast, the body is not starved of nutrients - on the contrary - the juices are full of life giving energy. Also, because you are still spending time taking in the juices,powders and herbs,and because your taste buds are being satisfied by the juices, a juice fast feels less stringent than a water fast. The juices have an alkalizing effect on the blood, which reduces any symptoms of detoxification.
You can juice almost any fruit and vegetables that you can eat raw. Vegetables that are good for juicing include tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, carrots and zuchinni squash.(do NOT try beets-Ugh!lol). Fruit-vegetable combinations taste delicious. For example, apple and carrot juice makes a nice blend. Another nice combination is apple, celery and cucumber.
It is recommended to dilute your juice 50/50 with water, especially if you are using fruits and the juice is too sweet. Use filtered water, if possible, for dilution. Use organic if possible.(I always use organic carrots,they just taste better). Peel and rinse well.
If you intend to try juice fasting, be sure to get a really good juicer. Good juicers make tastier juices, faster and do a better job in the extraction process. Good juicers also clean up more easily than cheap ones.
Freshly prepared juice from a supermarket or any juice that comes from a packet or can is NOT considered part of a juice fast.
How To Start and Breaking the Fast

In order to do this properly, you will need a juicer which is a machine specifically made for this purpose, It is NOT a mixer or a blender. It is NOT a citrus juicer. It is a device that is made to deliver vegetable juice out of a spout while the fiber is deposited another way.
A week prior to the start of juice fasting, intake of alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, sugar, dairy, fish, pork and beef are gradually stopped. Three days before by eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. The night before you should have a light, easy to digest meal such as steamed vegetables to 'ease' the body into the fasting process.
The juice is sipped throughout he day. Water is permitted; however, strictly speaking, solid food is not. (After juice fasting, solid food is gradually reintroduced to the body.) You can drink as much juice as you want - there is no limit. There are times the body will desire a greater intake of juice. Increased physical activity or entering into detoxification state can trigger increased juice consumption. I have found I drink more juice at the beginning of my fast, and as the fast progresses, my need for juice diminishes. This is not so with everyone.
Melon or vegetable are best in the morning. Too much citric acid on an empty stomach may cause cramps. I like to have cucumber and apple juice in the morning. Try to have some variety in your detox juices so that you don't get bored or sick of the same juice taste all the time. An added benefit of this is that your body will receive a wider array of vitamins, phytochemicals, minerals and enzymes for use in its cell generation and cell repair.
Breaking the Fast
Coming off the juice "fast" is best done by eating lightly for a while. I start out with 2 days of smoothies,fruit and vegetable blended drinks. Same line as juices in a thicker form and just as healthy. Next few days are fruit, fruit salads, vegetable soups, cottage cheese and other light foods. A good rule of thumb here is to eat only half as much as you want to at any one time... but eat twice as often. This is for about three days. Other helpful tips are do not overeat and chew well. Include more whole, raw unprocessed foods in general. Fast several times per year for a healthier body. Good Luck!

Jammin' juice2 carrots
1 small beet, green included
2 celery stalks
1 small granny smith apple
Sweet Surprise Juice
1/2 sweet mini watermelon, chunks
3 organic carrots
2 organic red delicious apples, minus seeds
1 ounce romaine leaf juice
Pink Detox
1 large beet with its greens, juiced
3 red apples, juiced with seeds
4 stalks celery with its greens, juiced
1 inch-long piece of ginger, juiced or grated
Cucumber/Apple
2 cucumbers
2 fuji apples
Carrot/Apple
6 carrot
2 apples
Watermelon
pulp and rind
Apple/Pear
2 apples and 1 pear
Veggie/Fruit
1 lb carrots
1 pineapple
1 lb. celery
4 fuji apples
Celery/Apple
2 celery stalks
4 apples
small piece ginger(optional)
Energy
cantaloupe
6 carrots pulp and rind
handful of parsley
Melonade
(the best lemonade you will ever taste)
Juice:
1 Lemon (without peel or use citrus juicer)
1 1/4 of a Medium Sized Watermelon
VITAMIN E JUICE
1/4 med pineapple
1 carrot
1 banana
1/2 lemon with rind on (wax free)
Detox Super Juice
2 Apples (Golden Delicious)
1 carrot (organic if possible)
1 slice of Lemon with the rind on (wax-free if possible)
1/4 Yellow Bell Pepper
1 inch slice of Cucumber
1/4 stem of Celery
1 inch stem of Brocolli
1 inch slice of raw Beetroot
Ice
SALAD IN A GLASS
1 stick celery
2 tomatoes
1/4 cucumber
Handful of salad leaves of your choice
2 carrots, topped and tailed
1 apple (preferably Golden Delicious)
Handful of ice
APRICOT SURPRISE
4 stoned apricots
1/4 peeled pineapple
1 stoned peach
Ice
"New Life"
8 large carrots
1 half large beet
1 half turnip
1 half parsnip
5 large celery stalks
1 quarter rutabaga
1/8 head red cabbage.
5 radishes
1 large Granny apple
1 cup cranberries (in season)
After these vegetables and fruits have been juiced, and gently stirred, you then put the juice in a blender and add:
* Two tablespoons of whole leaf aloe vera concentrate from Aloe Complete, Vista CA, 92085-0067
* Two tablespoons of Flor-Essence made by Flora, Inc Box 950 Lyden, WA. 98264
* One tablespoon of DeSouza's liquid chlorophyll.
* One teaspoon of BarleyGreen Powder made by AIM, Nampa Idaho. Put BarleyGreen powder in the juice and blend together in a blender.
* One or two ounces of New Vision's Essential Minerals (colloidal) .
* One teaspoon of powered vitamin c sprinkle on top
* One eighth teaspoon of hot chile pepper sauce.
"Hall of Fame Smoothie"
8 young carrots
1 small beet
1 half turnip
1 half parsnip
3 large individual celery stalks
1 large Fugi apple
1 large Comice pear
2 inches of Burdock root one half inch in diameter
After these vegetables and fruits have been juiced, and gently stirred, you then put the amount you want to drink in a blender and add:
* One teaspoon of Bee Pollen by Honey Run Honey Co. of Chico, CA
* Two tablespoons of Barley Green by American Image Marketing of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
* One scoop of Spiru-Protein powder (vanilla) by Nature's Plus of Melville, NY
* One or two ounces of New Vision's Essential Minerals (colloidal) of Tempe, Az.
Put on the puree setting of your blender for 2 minutes and you will have the most delightful drink you could ever imagine.
"Strawberry Delight"
8-10 strawberrys
8 small carrots
1 small zuchini.
4 individual celerey stalks.
1 small beet.
1 large Fuji apple.
A small section of Galanga root.
Juice about 1/2 inch burdock root.
"Colorful Carrot Supreme"
1 small beet.
1 pear.
1 fuji apple.
A small piece of ginger 2 inches max.
2 inches of salsify root.
4 individual celery stalks.
10-12 carrots.
1 small parsnip
"Clear Light"
1 partially skinned cucumber
1 small beet
1 half rhubarb stalk
1 apple
1 pear
8 carrots
1 small purple top turnip
3 inches of salsify root
3 inches of burdock root
