Need some juicing inspiration? Check out these delicious juicer recipes!
I am a novice juicer, but I am officially a juicer for life! I recently watched an incredible documentary called Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, directed by a man named Joe Cross who started the film with a chronic illness and a lot of extra weight. He set out on a journey to health, dedicating himself to a 90-day juice fast. For 3 months, Joe juiced his own fresh fruits and vegetables and ate nothing else...and his results were absolutely phenomenal!
After some health scares at the beginning of this year (which, thank God, turned out to just be scares), my main goal for 2012 is to regain my health and strength...and after watching the Joe Cross documentary, I am convinced that juicing will be a major part of my journey.
Read on to discover reasons and tips for juicing and my 5 favorite "go-to" juicer recipes.

Amazon Description:: "Overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe was at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. With doctors and conventional medicine unable to help, Joe traded in junk food and hit the road with a juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe had one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle."

This is a great juicer recipe to help you get started if you are new to juicing. It is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to give you a mighty punch that goes right along with your new health kick!
If you're not convinced about juicing after trying a glass of this fresh tropical fruit juice, you just might need to try another glass!

Very Berry Elixir

- Serves: 2
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
This is one of my favorite juicer recipes to have for a sweet treat. I love to make it in the afternoon when I get a bit of a sugar craving. I add some agave nectar to the juice to sweeten it up a bit. Agave nectar is a little like honey, but it comes from a vegetable source...interestingly enough, the same plant tequila is made from! It has many healthy benefits on its own, including a low glycemic index to prevent a "spike" in blood sugar levels. It is a wonderful way to sweeten teas and juices...and I even use it in some of my baking and my Healthy Homemade Granola Bars!
This recipe makes at least 2 large glasses of juice...Share and enjoy!

Heart Healthy Vegetable Juice
Heart Healthy Vegetable Juice

- Serves: 1-2
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
Are you a fan of V-8 juice? You can make your own at home! Here is a simple juicer recipe for getting the nutrients from 8 key sources for an all-around healthy juice choice!
Not being a huge fan of vegetables, this one took a few times for me to start enjoying...but now I really look forward to it! It makes me feel like I have infused my body with good stuff...that is a great feeling!
If you don't enjoy this at first, give it a few tries. Just think about not having to eat your veggies - you can drink them instead!
I get a different amount of juice every time I make this one...it basically just depends on the size of the tomatoes and cucumber. You should get 1 to 2 glasses of juice from this juicer recipe
Image: Tomatoes by Ajith_chatie ~ Flickr Creative Commons
Ingredients
- 2 Tomatoes - Medium (I like Roma tomatoes best!)
- 1 Stalk of Celery
- 1 Carrot - Large
- 1 Cup Broccoli
- 1 Cucumber
- 1/2 Lemon - Peeled
- 1 Garlic Clove
Instructions
Simple - Run it all through the juicer and drink! Isn't juicing fun and easy?
Don't Forget Your Greens!
Image: Lettuce Field ~ Available at AllPosters.com
Leafy Green Power Juice
- Serves: 1
I love green juicer recipes because I definitely don't eat enough salads to get the incredible health benefits of the leafy greens. Plus, there is no fruit to peel or slice in this recipe...everything is thrown into the juice extractor whole! Super fast and easy!
If a pure vegetable juice is a little too hardcore for you, the apples in this recipe sweeten up the greens and make it more palatable.
Ingredients
- Kale
- Spinach
- Collard Greens
- Chard
- Sprouts
- ...even wild Dandelion greens!
Instructions
I do not use the same ingredients every time I make a Leafy Green Power Juice. Instead, I throw in a combination of whatever lettuces I have in the fridge and an apple. The ingredients above are just suggestions for healthy dark greens to use for your green juice.
If you prefer to drink a sweeter juice, use 2 apples to create a sweet, fruity base and then add greens until you have enough juice for a whole glass. Carrots can also be used to sweeten up a green juice...and add even more incredibly healthy nutrients!

- I have the Warning Pro 850 Watt juicer- I bought it maybe a year and 1/2 ago. I'm now just wiping off the dust it collected and getting into using it. So far I'm loving it. It's easy- clean up isn't bad- but I read what you said about the pulp still having a lot of juice in it. I am noticing that my pulp has some juice still in it- more with juicer foods- than the greens. But, I don't know if any other juicer can do a better job. I watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead twice, and I don't remember him pulling out the pulp and showing it was dry...he also juiced mostly greens verses fruits like pineapple or grapefruit (great together I might add) Let us know which one you decide on and how it works.

- We use Omega juicer (finally on daily basis) and it was one of the best shopping decisions we've ever made. I'm afraid I can't judge these juicers here but then again it's not so important. The most important part is to make a decision of juicing every single day for your own good. Great lens and recipes:)

- If you have kids and want them to eat healthier buy a juicer! Trust me, my kids love trying new drinks to see how they come out. It really makes eating healthier so much easier and the drinks are by far so much tastier than anything you buy pre-made. Thanks for all the great recipes!

The Cost of Choosing the Wrong Juicer
Money Down the Drain!
I started juicing with a hand-me-down juicer that did a great job getting the juice out of the produce, but unfortunately it broke down. I wanted to replace it with another high-quality machine, but in the meantime, I've been using a cheap $50 juicer that I bought to "hold me over". Here is what I have learned:My cheap, low-quality juicer gives me juice...it serves its purpose. However, produce is expensive! And after I juice my fruits and vegetables, the "pulp" that is left behind is soaking wet, still full of juice! That juice should be in my glass, not left in the waste receptacle!
If you watch Joe Cross's videos on the page, you'll see that he reaches in and pulls out some of the leftover pulp and it's DRY. This is how a good juicer should work. It should efficiently remove every last drop of moisture from your produce so that it goes into your body instead of the compost.
Buy the highest quality juicer you can afford on your budget! Don't settle for the cheapest one you can get at your local big box store. I made this mistake and I feel like I wasted $50...that money could have gone toward a better appliance...and toward the cost of fresh fruits and vegetables that would go much further in a better machine.
Lesson learned!

My favorite treat to make for my kids is homemade frozen juice pops. These are awesome on a hot day and they are so much better than the sugar-laden frozen treats you buy at the store!

Ideas for Leftover Juice Pulp
What To Do With The Leftover Pulp?
Here's A Couple of Great Ideas!
Note: Some of these videos feature baked goods that are high in sugar. You could probably use these ideas as a basis and then substitute healthier ingredients (i.e. agave nectar instead of sugar) to create healthier treats.
However, every once in awhile, I really enjoy making a sweet treat for the kids, so I might just try out some of these ideas!

The Most Important Thing
Tip: When I start juicing, I fill my sink with an inch or two of sudsy water. Before I drink my juice, I quickly take the juicer apart and wash up the parts while they are still "wet". If the fibers dry onto the equipment, it can be MUCH more difficult and time-consuming...meaning you will be less likely to keep juicing!
